08:07 AM ET 07.02 | On the surface, Detroit merely selected a very talented young player from UConn in Andre Drummond, but there's an interesting sidebar. So let me get this straight, I say to Andre Drummond. You were just hanging out in Manhattan on Tuesday night? "Yeah," he says. "With my mom." Watching TV? "Watching TV." And your agent calls? "Yeah. And he said, 'You got a workout.' And I said, 'All right, when?' And he said, 'At 11.' And I said, 'OK, 11 in the morning.' And he said, 'No, 11 tonight.'" What time was it? "It was 10:30." ... [Drummond became the Pistons' first-round pick] at least partially due to his good showing in the impromptu workout at the Sports Club/LA on the upper east side of Manhattan, which was hastily arranged by Joe Dumars.

Good idea. Having a lower FT% than Ben Wallace would be embarrassing.

At 11:00 PM it's so dark out so what could he have possibly seen that made him think Drummond is the answer? Add the fact that Dumars' draft and free agent signings aren't great and you shiver inside if y're a Piston's fan... why wait till so late?.... what did he do all day?...

You know they make basketball courts indoors too, right?

Maybe Joe brought a flashlight. If not, the Pistons' fans better worry.

Look at Dumars workings these past 5 years and then tell me you shouldn't be afraid of this spur of the moment work out and draft selection. Dumars has been horrid now for 4 years plus and now people are to buy this? Dumars of late is yet another Detroit extraordinaire aka Millen. Hold your breath Piston fans and look out!

I thyink it was an excellent indication of Drummonds' attitude and committment. A lot of the current crop of players wouldn't have shown up at 11:00.

Dumars should be renamed to dumbarse

New Practice routine. He can't go to bed until he hits 100 free throws.

I myself thought that Drummond would've went higher, to a team like the Blazers.

C'mon.....this is the LostBoy you're addressing.

He doesn't know much of anything.....

BTW......nothing like being 'ever ready' to make a good impression.

This is kind of interesting. They probably worked him before during a normal scheduled workout but an unplanned workout last minute tells more about what you bring to a table without being prepared. He probably only had time to dress and run to the gym. Drummond is very raw but very athletic and he is only 18. He is a few years away from being a solid contributor

Is this just random hate ?

Nope; A targeted hate. Based on his idiotic trades and moves the past few years.

I agree.

Dummars was in NY because he was being interviewed by Dolan for the Knicks GM job.
