A new SEC rivalry: Saban vs. Calipari

08:21 AM ET 07.02 | Bragging rights take on a different hue in SEC country, where both NCAA football and basketball titles reside. If it wasn't obvious by now, it became crystal football clear Thursday night. Nick Saban's biggest competition for SEC supremacy doesn't come from Gene Chizik or Les Miles. It comes from John Calipari. They may coach different sports, but the Alabama football poobah and the Kentucky basketball king are both on top of their respective worlds right now. Saban owns the BCS football national championship, his second at Alabama and third overall. Calipari owns the NCAA basketball title. ... There's no end in sight to either the Alabama pipeline to the NFL or the Kentucky pipeline to the NBA so there are no losers in this debate.

Different sports. Don't see how it can be a rivalry. Guess my definition of rivalry is just too old for the modern world.

And none of you old farts need to reply with a smartass comment.

Hey Tin Man, if Saban is Lucifer's Vessel, what does that make Calipari?

Little boys used to compare weiner sizes, now SEC coaches compare ego sizes.

With all the quotes coming out of The Birmingham News lately, I concluded 2 things - the intern's mom works there and the writers are a bunch of idiots (take a $20 svt, put towards my tab)

One can't be rivals with another if your respective interests don't collide in literally any facet whatsoever.

Perhaps the two may have similar personalities, but that isn't the article's thrust. I suspect Saban and Calipari go weeks without the other man's name so much as even crossing their mind. One is 110% football and the other 110% basketball, I expect they each could not care less about the other sport and how its faring in their conference.
