08:24 AM ET 07.02 | Somewhat understandably, the agent for Alex Semin was not a happy man coming out of the weekend. After hearing his client called "a coach killer" and "a complete loser," Mark Gandler had some harsh words for TSN analysts Pierre McGuire and Marc Crawford on Sunday, saying their comments could get in the way of contract talks with NHL teams interested in signing Semin as an unrestricted free agent. ... Gandler said Semin is just as valuable as a free agent as New Jersey Devils forward Zach Parise. "In fact, Semin's stats are better than those of Parise," Gandler said. "The only way to attack that is to call Semin names I have to tell you I'm going to check with my attorney."

Stats mean garbage Gandler, it's the intangibles that separate Parise from Mr. Softee.

and imagine my surprise...I was certain Pm was a huge fan of Semin

Apparently Markie is upset that he's also an agent breaker! LMAO.

July 2, 2012  09:24 AM ET

I'd take him on my team for say 4-years $20 million.

Let me tell you about stats.
Pascal Dupuis, 4 more goals and 1 more assist than Semin last year.
Has had two consecutive 54 point seasons after a 79 and 84 point season.
Could he get 80-100 points playing with Crosby? Sure!
Is that worth the gamble, I dunno. I also think he'd play in the KHL before he accepted a contract for what he is currently worth.

to this point...make all contracts incentive laden, that way, they HAVE to perform...and not just in the "walk year"

He's got a zillion dollars worth of talent, but no heart at all. I've seen him for his entire time with the Caps and while he can dazzle you on occasion, he disappears for long periods at a stretch. Usually only at critical moments however. Good bye, good riddance and enjoy the KHL or whoever is stupid enough to give you and your agent 3 X what you're worth (your current salary)..

Well he was talking behind his back.

July 2, 2012  09:51 AM ET

He's made his bed. Let him lie in it.

If he wants to still play in this league, take a cut, play your heart out and prove you got it.

July 2, 2012  09:53 AM ET

Semin plays soft. He goes missing too often, especially in big games. Is that calling him names?

which, coincidentally, is where PM is used to having Semin

Agree, put him on another team and he can change his game (see Kovy, Ilya). I don't think he has much heart, and if he goes to the Blue Jackets or Isles, he will be the same player. Go to a team like Detroit, play and learn for Pavel and watch him grow. Now he is definitely no Parise (HOMER), but he should get a decent deal.
Radulov is getting 9.2 mil a yr in the KHL for 4 years. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

still a crapshoot though. I would bet more than half the league (and fans...including me) could not have predicted Kovy's 180. But everyone can't do that. the difference I guess, is that evn in Atlanta, Kovy always had a bit of an edge to him...a toughness. Semin doesn't have that. I always remember the playoff game with Atl vs. NYR where The Avery was being The Avery and Kovy lost it. I can't say I would ever see Semin showing that much passion. And I wonder if Datsyuk would be able to find it in him anyway. I'd be more worried about him bringing Datsyuk down!

From what I heard the Isles were having talks with him but they've cooled and are no longer interested. What that says to me is that Gandler seems to think Semin doesn't deserve a pay cut and is asking for big bucks or a longer term. I agree that he'd be the same player on the Isles then other teams. We got our motivated player in Boyes already, why poison the well by adding Bongo Boy.

One of those intangibles: Semin is the undisputed slapping champion of the NHL.

July 2, 2012  10:26 AM ET

As we all know, there is at this moment some GM in the process of deluding himself into thinking that Semin will be a completely different player on his team. Once that process is complete, the offers will start.

And, thank goodness, the agent is going to check with his lawyer to see if anything can be done about Semin's hurt feelings.
