Wild won't be outspent for Parise

08:30 AM ET 07.02 | Going into the weekend, one might have to forgive Wild fans for their optimism in signing Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, which as of Monday morning hadn't happened. Whether the Wild sign either remains to be seen. But after a day when more than a dozen teams expressed interest in both players, the Wild's bold attempt at a coup seemed to stand a fighting chance. People with knowledge of the situation have said the Wild won't be outspent as they pursue Parise, though they're in competition with teams like Detroit, Pittsburgh and New Jersey. ... But the Wild are hoping to sell Parise on their group of young prospects and the idea of helping to build a contending team in his home state.

Just because you are willing to throw more money at it doesn't mean it's going to happen.

He has narrowed it down to six teams, so it all should be over by next week. :)

JC, FA time has already hit us and we get the same stories. I was looking at a live blog yesterday and Suter was still expected to sign with the Red Wings today and Parise still signing with 5 teams.

I'll own up to this. It was the "I can afford to buy Bar Refaeli dinner, but that doesn't mean it will happen" stance that I took.

It depends on how he looks at it. Up until January, the Wild were doing very well. Then, for whatever reason, they fell off a cliff. If Parisie thinks they are only a player or two away from playoff contention, he may find it interesting to lead that effort.

Pitt, Phi throwing huge money at ZP. Leave my team alone. Bad bad Atlantic division rivals.
Pitt, Wings or Devils is who I think he goes. I think the Devils are a 4-1 favorite. Followed closely by Pitt at 9-2, and the Wings at 7-1. Think the Flyers are 15-1 (Bryz factor) and the Wild are a 30-1 longshot.

I personally think Jersey gets him back. My second guess is the Wild, Pittsburgh coming in third. Silly for me to rank them 1-2-3, considering he can't be split in three ways, but...
I have always thought Pittsburgh was a long shot. Why go with a team with two superstars, when he can be his own on another? He can contribute just as much on another too.

Phantom,
What is the latest with Jagr? Haven't heard much about our beloved (snicker). Latest I heard was the Canadians? WTF?

I was talking about the Wings, me boy. Holland signed Jonas Gustavsson and Jodrin Tootoo yesterday. Now, he's making the rest of 'em sweat a little before he allows them to sign on the dotted line!

He's waiting to hear what Malkin gets on his next contract before deciding ;) Jest kidding.
I haven't heard a peep on the Jagrmeister front in days. Last I heard was that Holmgren was hoping to re-sign him. He probably knows he is far down on the list of players teams are going after and is just waiting to see how things shake out.

Parise is from Minnesota and recently purchased a home on Lake Minnetonka in the Twin Cities. Could just be for his summer home, but ya never know!
