Tannehill's not ready

07:58 AM ET 07.03 | A weekend report suggested that David Garrard had the advantage in the race for the starting quarterback job in Miami, thanks in part to the eye test. The only time we saw Matt Moore or Ryan Tannehill working with the "ones" was during the mid-June minicamp. But Garrard is the first to say that, while he's never played in the West Coast offense, it's a great fit for what he does best, which is drop back, read and get rid of the ball quickly. ... As for Tannehill, he's not in the running right now due to his untimely mistakes, particularly when throwing into traffic. Coach Joe Philbin and his staff have made it clear that turnovers will not be tolerated, so for now at least Tannehill will continue his apprenticeship as the No. 3 guy.

Matt Moore should ask for a trade. He's been the only successful quarterback Miami has had for 3 or 4 years, and it looks like he's being pushed aside. He'd be a good backup almost anywhere, and there are teams where he could be the starter.

Why be a backup elsewhere, when he's already a backup in Miami ?

Amazing how the comments behind this story turn into how everyone else is not shining, instead of how David Garard IS. He's clearly the best QB in their camp if you guys know anything about football. The object is to win the game, not search for the next "golden boy".

The only thing that will ever be 'golden' about Tannehill is his wife.

Silly Management in Miami, IMO... They could've used the pick on Tannehill to address some of their many other needs. Everyone knew he wasn't all that.

A young QB needs a little time to sit and learn before he's ready to start. Stunner....

David Garrard is 34 years old with a 39-37 career record and an 85.8 passer rating. He's coming off an injury year where he didn't play or even sign with a team. Matt Moore is only 27 and was hot at the end of last season.
Garrard may look like the best guy in practice, but he's not going to last long. If the idea is to use him as the setup man for Tannehill, fine, but don't expect much out of him.

Kind of reminds you when they reached for Ted Ginn Jr a few years back.

They pulled off one of the greatest draft reaches of all time. He won't amount to much.

I'm sure Miami fans are not shocked by this revelation. Drafting Hill at 8 might have been the biggest reach in recent memory.

What do you expect when you draft a low second round QB in the early part of the first round?
