Red Sox after King Felix?

08:14 AM ET 07.03 | Even if it meant parting with Jon Lester and Jacoby Ellsbury in Boston, some see Felix Hernandez as an ace with few peers. I think [the Red Sox] would pursue King Felix, but not Greinke. King Felix is special. He's like Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez, so he'd be worth the expenditure of players and cash. Greinke, to me, is in a different class. He's having a great season. He had a great season in his Cy Young year, but he's kind of up and down year to year. There are the anxiety issues that you'd have to be concerned about. His GM in KC was Allard Baird, Boston's vice president of player personnel. Not sure that Greinke would be suited for the Boston market. [Ryan Kalish] may be the CF or RF of the future.

That would be interesting.

"I think" Felix should be offended at being compared to Roider Clemens ...

Jonny Lestaaah and Ellsbury? Too much IMO. I know it's King Felix but still..

Elsbury will be gone in 2 years when his contract is up because Boras will want top dollar.

Which is why Seattle might not want him either. Although being from that part of the country, he would be a great signing for the Mariners to invest in and build around.

......this deal (or any deal) happens only if the ranger front office says so....the king may be the missing ingredient in texas to get over the top.....and they got way more to give than boston....

July 3, 2012  09:07 AM ET

I can't see it happening.

"the missing ingredient in texas to get over the top", would seem to be a RF, who can catch a fly ball.

Bad trade.....my how the stock of players drops in Beantown...Ellsbury is a one year wonder????....Boston is short on starting pitching as it is ..you would want to add Hernandez to Lester and Beckett ....and then you'll need a center fielder to boot....

a lof easier to find a CF, than an ace pitcher.

It's all media speculation, but let's have some fun with it--
Not so sure it's a bad trade; Lester for Felix is an upgrade, and Jacoby may be too tough to re-sign in a couple of years as others have commented. The Mariners may think they could have a hometown advantage in signing him.
The Bosox have lots of fielding talent so filling center field may not be a big problem.
All in all, I'd make the deal.

Nice outing by Dice K last night. The Red Sox need to add a pitcher, not trade one pitcher for another.

Don't bother, it's too late.

he'll still be on the dl

That is a possibility.

It's July 3. No team in the AL East is without serious flaws at this point. Interesting season.
