08:20 AM ET 07.03 | 'Tis the season for summer camps, which have progressively become more important in recruiting. With NCAA rules increasingly limiting the contact college coaches can have with recruits, camps have become as much a part of the recruiting game as home visits. University of Miami coach Al Golden said that while he was head coach at Temple, 80 percent of the players he signed had gone to camp with the Owls. Of the 25 players in UM's 2012 recruiting class, Golden estimates that 60 percent took part in a one-day camp at UM last summer. For both coaches and recruits, camps can be a win-win situation. Coaches can watch prospective players up close, putting them through drills in an atmosphere similar to the NFL Combine.
