Howard-to-Lakers a better deal than ever

08:11 AM ET 07.04 | It may be time to dust off the speculation that the Lakers might swap Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard all over again. A year ago, it was a good deal. Now, it is a great deal. Howard, the game's premier center, would immediately lift the Lakers from irrelevancy into championship contention. He is surrounded by tricky questions, but is reinforced with good answers. ... But I seem to recall another NBA star who left his team under much harsher circumstances, and somehow LeBron James changed his demeanor and handled our criticism long enough to win a championship. Howard can win one here. Howard can be the centerpiece for the next five years here. Howard can be the perfect transitional star to carry the Lakers into a new era.

In 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed, declaring the United States' independence from Great Britain. To this day our U.S. Armed forces have fought to protect us against all enemies foreign and domestic and to ensure we keep our individual freedom and independence from the rest of the world.
If you have the opportunity today (and every day), thank an active member or veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Happy Independence Day FN!

D-12 won't be happy in LaLa Land sharing the spotlight w/ KoMe. For Dwight, his stop is in Brooklyn.

I've never understood why anyone thought Bynum was a better option than Howard. Get Nash and Howard in there. Either way, without the Triangle the Lakers desperately need a true point guard to run their offense. Dribbling the ball and then passing to Kobe in the last five hoping for a bail out won't get it done.

There is no doubt that teaming up with a point guard like Williams or Paul would be more desirable than playing with Kobe.

Only one issue I see with this..If Bynum who is in the last year of his contract does not agree to a long term deal with the Magic then this will not happen and something tells me Bynum will not agree to play for a team that needs a lot of help. I see the guy playing the year out and testing the market.

It's a trade of back problems for knee problems. Also Howard's overall impact on a game is bigger than that of Bynum. However Bynum's got more talent than Howard. It'll be a fair trade for both teams with Los Angeles getting a slight edge because of the existence of a core that's better than what Bynum will be working with ir Orlando.

I strongly disagree. There is no comparison of the two defensively. Bynum is more talented offensively, but Howard still can get points with the repertoire he does have he can still get twenty.

If he really wanted out of New Orleans he should have signed a one year deal until he became unrestricted. Now he will be stuck there for another three years at least.
