08:13 AM ET 07.04 | Though there is now some evidence to the contrary in support of the idea, the Celtics are standing behind Danny Ainge's publicly professed intention to re-sign Ray Allen. The declaration stands, even after the Celtics reached agreement with Jason Terry yesterday. The former Dallas guard agreed to a three-year contract that will pay him approximately $5 million next season, and just under $16 million by the end of the deal. It would seem the 2009 Sixth Man of the Year -- a player so important during the Mavericks' 2011 title run -- would duplicate Allen's first-shooter-off-the-bench role. ... [But Ainge] hasn't changed his mind. "We're still going after Ray," a team source said [Tuesday].

I don't think Ray was happy with the way Doc utilized him last season.

Celtics would be wise to get a deal with Allen done if at all possible. Personally, I would love to see the Heat sign him. It just seems inconceivable that he will take half the money to play in Miami when he already has a ring. But...it would make things a whole lot easier for Wade and Lebron.

Jesus Shuttlesworth can sign the writing on the wall, he's at best a 6th man in Beantown or South Beach. The King wants him and the King gets what he wants eventually.

I can honestly see it going either way, with Avery Bradley back from injury it will help not to wear him out as badly, plus he makes twice the money.

If he takes half the money to play for a rival clearly he would be spitting in the face of his ex-teammates and the city of Boston. I can't see that happening although personally I would love to see it. I think it would be more understandable if he took five million to start for the Clippers.

So it's true? Hmmmm...the Celtics have chosen Rondo, obviously. Could this offer to Ray be a public relations stunt to appease Celtics fans?

*nods* That and those trade rumors would kill anyone's desire to hang around. Still, I hope he stays on, because Goodness knows that Jason Terry is not a viable replacement.
