08:15 AM ET 07.04 | Only one team was going to sign Deron Williams, leaving hopeful, would-be suitors to change course. The Dallas Mavericks' point guard priorities are now shifting to 39-year-old and former Mav Steve Nash and one-time Mavs Summer League hand Jeremy Lin, sources told ESPN.com. ... Sources say the Mavs will pursue Nash and the New York Knicks' Lin, who is a restricted free agent. As such, the Knicks can match any offer made to Lin. The Los Angeles Lakers have also taken an interest in Nash, according to an NBA.com report. Dallas is undecided regarding Houston Rockets free agent Goran Dragic, who visited the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday and could command a starting salary of $10 million, according to sources.

This Lin guy is an enigma. He played great for a stretch and flaked out. So you can't tell if his body wasn't ready for the grind of stardom of if he's just a one hit wonder. Simply put there's simply not enough data to measure his real value for the long haul.
He will definitely get overpaid as these owners like to splurge on potential but no one will know for sure if they're getting a starter, a career back up or Greg Oden.

Lin was a baller when no one knew he was in the NBA. After opponents put him in the game plan, he was not starter material. Cuban can do better.

If I was a GM I will structure his four year contract like this. First two years at 5mil per year guaranteed and then team option of 10mil third year and 10mil player option for fourth year. That's a four year 30mil contract and if he's not up to the billing there's a chance to cut him lose.

It looks like you might, the Rockets are gonna give him an offer sheet like Asik, so basically you will have to overpay to keep him.

AND you are also right in "if we lose him, we lose". If I'm Knicks mgmt I would not match that foolish offer for Fields nor would I match any foolish and outta order offer for Lin. Niether is worth the stretch. We're already in a disastrous situation with the Stat contract and certainly don't need to do further damage with these projects in Lin and Fields. Fields had everyone in awe and expressing how much potential he had and guess what? we're still waiting in year three. If the Hawks found a way to unload Joe Johnson and that contract, the Knicks should take heed and also find a way to unload Stat. Thats my point!

AND I'd let the Rockets keep him. Look, these are the same Rockets that are willing to trade 1st round draft picks along with very good players for the rental of Howard for a year. The Rockets are foolish and its gonna haunt them for years with these foolish ideas if they're implemented. Knicks give'm Lin if they overpay.
