08:32 AM ET 07.04 | Aside from the obvious decision staring him in the face, these are good days to be Ryan Suter, who reportedly hosted two owners making pitches to him at his farm in Wisconsin. Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch, general manager Ken Holland and team advisor Chris Chelios boarded a corporate jet [Tuesday] morning, spoke with Suter and his agent, Neil Sheehy, and returned to Detroit in the afternoon. The Red Wings offered Suter $90 million for 13 years. ... The Red Wings also have been using Chelios as a recruiter. Chelios has spoken frequently with Suter's uncle, Gary. Chelios and Gary Suter were teammates for five seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks. Chelios and both Suters are Wisconsin alums.

Hey we got the Monster and Tootoo. That's good right?

This is an awful move. He will be the 3rd highest paid defender - for what? What has he done? Such a panic move. Same with the Rick Nash trade to Detroit speculations. Trade half our forwards or prospects for an albatross contract...

Can someone tell me why Suter is about to be paid like the third best defender? Is he a Norris Trophy candidate? Is he going to lead us to a Stanley Cup? Such a terrible move - I hope he doesn't take it.

I dont mind the Tootoo signing to bring a little spunk. Price is a tad high. The Monster...meh..low risk.

George read that Joey was from Anchorage so he figured he must be a..... "King Crabb."

it's exactly what I'm thinking. Just south of 7 million per season for NINE (count em NINE!!!) years. Seems incredibly steep. I get the fact that the Kings paid Doughty & just won the cup...but I really don't see it as a sign for everyone to jump overboard.

We're talking about a player that MAXED out at 46 points!!! He is going to be playing max minutes, yet he doesn't contribute on offense, nor is he gifted on the power play & he hasn't really shown that he will be the guy to put on the offensive pressure when needed to come back from behind.

For a really tough & solid defensive defenseman I don't think that we should even be discussing anything above 5 million per season.

We resigned a 40 yr old to a 2 yr deal, a 39 yr old to a 2 yr deal (both have NTC and both are goaltenders) and a 36 yr old Dman to a 3 yr deal. (Looks up Alzheimer's medicines on google)

Best FA dman out there, then Carle and then...nobody. Sparse pickings means the top prize gets crap load of money. The plus, if this is correct, is that the Wings are offering under $7 million in cap hit. Basically he'd be getting Lidstrom's salary.

Suter, please go to Detroit. Relieve them from their misery. The begging is getting ridiculous! ;)

exactly santa....he'll be getting Nick money. Like Nard said on another thread....that Wideman contract set the table for Dmen...and you know that Suter is worth more. I think he's going to be overpaid but it's what the market dictates

while not being anywhere close to Lidstroms quality.

Suters a solid d-man...and hes ranked higher than Bouwmeester IMO or close to him....and Bouwmeesters getting paid 6.5 per...so thats the jump off point....

And Celine is making 6.5 million...so that's the jump off the bridge point....

They recruited Chris Chelios to persuade Ryan Suter? I would've sent Joey Kocur and Darren McCarty.

picking a players salary at random and saying <well if he deserves this then I deserve more> is a really, really dangerous way of doing business. Theres ALWAYS a guy who gets too big of a contract. Bouwmeester was vastly overpaid. So now because Suter is better than Bouwmeester we should be adding interest on the already bad deal?
