08:32 AM ET 07.04 | After signing a pair of 40-year-olds, the Stars are thrilled about their future, and Tom Gaglardi was a happy man. The Stars owner had just finished a couple of weeks of transition by signing Jaromir Jagr to a one-year $4.55 million contract, and said his new team has made huge strides in a very short time. "It's a big day for the Dallas Stars, because it shows we want to win, that we can recruit a great player to come here, and that we're very relevant on the NHL landscape," Gaglardi said. "If you look at our top six now, I think we're competitive, I think we're exciting, and I definitely think we're a playoff team. We have made ourselves over."

He can't be serious?

Slow down bud.

Here's what you've done: you traded away one playmaking centre who gets a lot of points, replaced him with a playmaking centre who gets injured every year and therefore does not get a lot of points, giving up a big two-way centre who gets some points, and signing a 40 year old coming off a crap season and a 40 year old who had an enigma of a season on an enigma of a team.

So, if trading down in size and skill and adding two old dudes is what gets a team to the playoffs, you're set.

I think we'll be seeing you in the lottery next season, though.

You've got the 'miracle ear' turned up today?

I have no idea what the Stars are doing. When I saw them deal Ribeiro I figured that they're going to go into rebuild...figured it makes sense...then we got the free agency moves & I'm left scratching my head.

Where are the certain Flyer fans saying Jagr went to them and took a discount, and it wasn't about the money, he wanted to play for the Flyers. I guess now he just really wants to play for the Stars.

With Jagr, it's always about the money, or Jagr.

Just two months ago, or less, he said the Flyers or playing with them was the best fun he ever had, yadda, yadda, yadda. Those Cup wins must have sucked. He wanted to stay with them, etc. Now, he is with another team for another million without breaking a sweat, or giving it another thought.

That's Jagr...good or bad, for others to judge or not to judge, but that's Jagr.

hopefully the stars will learn from Jagrs season in Philly....the old man has to sit some games out! My god, 4.5 million for a player that we are not sure can even make it to the finish line.

The fact that people cant see through his act is frightning. I figured that last season he would be good to go....what with him coming off a few short seasons of non-contact hockey over in Europe...but sure enough he completely ran out of gas. Somehow he managed to score himself an upgrade from 3.3 to 4.5 million even though he failed to deliver the goods. Amazing world we live in. A sucker born every day.
