Why the Cards don't miss Pujols

Give all of the credit to the ownership and GM for staying put. If they had sign 5 they would have not been able to sign 4 to a long tern contract or next year some of your starters would be leaving because the Cards couldn't afford them. By not signing the greedy one the Cards leave themselves in very good shape for the future, because now they have money to spend if needed and also landed number 3 who has really help.

Beltran is beating on that Rock, Good for Him!!!

16m for Beltran vs 25m for Pujols on average is +1 for the Cards.

+2 for the Cards is seeing Carlos hit 30pts higher, plus 7 more home runs, 14 rbi's and 3 more stolen bases.

StL needs to get Berkman back for a 2nd half run and see Wainright keep getting stronger on the mound.

Those 2 things improve and StL is going to be a tough team to beat with their bats on fire like they are.

They will, when the Cards are sitting home watching the playoffs. The writer is correct, there are other "problem spots", but not having Pujols will not make them better off.

I agree. Card's management has done a nice job of managing contracts to keep a steady supply of good players. This year they would be better off with Pujols than without, and maybe net year too, but a 10 year monster contract would wreck the team for years to come. the angels are swimming in hot waters,,,,, why?? their biggest problem right at this moment its named, DAN HAREN WHO SHOULD BE INJURIED, ERVIN SANTANA WHO MOST HAVE DEAD ARM, AND THE ROOKIE RICHARDS WHO ITS ALSO INJURIED, WHY THE GM HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING? I think it is more that they haven't felt the impact more than it is that they don't miss him. Beltran has simply minimized that impact.

When the Angels are cutting $24 million per year in checks for a guy hitting .260 with 20 home runs in a couple of seasons the Cards management are going to look like geniuses.

We are only half-way through the season--don't you think it would be prudent to at least wait to see what happens over the course of an entire season or two before proclaiming the addition of Beltran to be an improvement over Pujols? Moreover, after slumping badly in April and the early part of May, Pujols has been on fire for the past few weeks. At any rate, when Beltran puts up close to a .330 average and around 120 RBIs a season for several consecutive years like Pujols did, you might have a point--otherwise, it seems silly and extremely premature to make that comparison. Let's just wait and see.

Yup--in fact, it's seems to be more than sour grapes, it's completely ludicrous. What team would not be better off with a future HOFer on the roster who consistenly puts up great numbers, plays good defense, is a great teammate and has led his team to a pair of championships? Pujols didn't put the current system in place that produced his monster contract--he merely took advantage of it, just like virtually everyone else, including those who criticize him, would do.

They miss him, any team without him misses him...simple.
