Why Nash-to-Pens remains unlikely

08:33 AM ET 07.05 | Though they weren't the frontrunner for Zach Parise, Pittsburgh indicated its interest -- if not spelling out a need it would still like to address. There are some quality wingers available on the trade market, although the Penguins would be hard-pressed to meet the asking price for either, even if they would decide to pursue one of them aggressively. Columbus left winger Rick Nash, a premier power forward, is coming off a soap-opera season that included a request to be traded. Blue Jackets management is trying to accommodate him -- the Columbus Dispatch reported that the Penguins are on a list of teams to which Nash would approve a trade -- but Columbus is hoping to add goal-scoring forwards, and the Penguins have none to spare.

The Pens have nothing to spare. It's a non-starter.

Certainly no forwards, unless Columbus wants projects.

I read yesterday (forgot where) that Columbus is not looking for Krider or Del Zotto or Mcdonagh, but maybe at Karl Hagelin? I'd give them Hagelin, Dubie and a #1...no sweat. I'd say Nash can score 40 playing with Richards or Callahan or gaborik

Maybe the Pens can borrow some guys from the Rangers to trade for Nash.
Nash could score 40 with the Rangers, He'd score 60 with Sid as a linemate.

with Sid? yeah, maybe 60....Shero seems pretty smart as a GM sometimes, he may yet find a way to do this...

The Pens would be on the hook for $8mil+ on three guys, with Fleury needing a new deal in 3 years that would probably also be in that territory. $30mil+ on four players is a LOT of money, especially if the cap is lowered in the next CBA.

Might they trade Malkin or Crosby for Nash? :-)

they would be foolish if they did. those 2 are proven commodities.
I like Nash, and think he will do well. Basing this solely on the fact that he does pretty well on a bad team, and that he could be better with better teammates. He showed that in The olympics. But it isn't a lock over an entire season. But for all of the jokes, Sid and Malkin can play over the long haul. (provided he doesn't get a shot in his rather delicate coconut)

Seeing as the Caps snapped up Joey Crabb Pittsburgh will have to settle for Nash.
Canuck eh?

I'd see him playing with Gino...two very big powerful guys impossible to move off the puck that are both gifted around the net. I'd like to see him go to the Pens just to watch the PP. But since Columbus wants the whole farm for him...not going to happen...I can't even see where is will happen...Nash is a great player but any team that is on "his list" will not want to give up their future for him. He was an idiot to take such a long term deal with Columbus in the first place.

The team with the most depth and cap space to spare will be the ideal trading partner with Columbus. Good luck with finding that.

Everything I read said it has to be McDonagh, Krieder or Stephan. If I were the Rangers, I would build something around Stephan. That's just me. I don't think Stephan will be more then a #2 center, so if you can get Nash for that, you do.
