Why Kidd won't improve Knicks' backcourt

08:09 AM ET 07.06 | In the eyes of some, the Knicks' offseason plays to shore up their backcourt may fail dramatically. The Knicks get Jason Kidd about 10 years too late, when he is eight months shy of his 40th birthday and can't hack starters' minutes anymore. They still might end up with Jeremy Lin, but at an outrageous amount of money for a backup player. They have done nothing this offseason to address their lack of a shooting guard. So as any Knick fan can see, we're a long way from a dream backcourt here. ... Almost a week into free agency, the Knicks are still frontcourt-heavy, with their version of the Big Three. It hasn't exactly meshed, and when they overpaid to get Tyson Chandler, it ended up creating these craters in the backcourt.

Kidd will help Lin mature as a player and leader..........................If Lin stays..............

I think Lin is going to Houston...is it July 11th yet?

I'm glad the Mavs didn't waste $9 mill on him.

Kidd's leadership is priceless. He will certainly help and teach Lin.
The question is, what happened to JR smith ?

....now they have more money to waste on Ramon Sessions aka the backup point guard.

This article is completely wrong..........The Knicks didn't overpay for Chandler, "they overpayed for Stat". All of you suggesting that the Knicks overpay Lin 5, 5.5, 9, 9.3 are completely mad and the Knicks would be too. Hear me loud and clear......let Fields go, let Lin go. I can't believe this 25 gets the Knicks to tack on 28 mil to the cap, not to mention possilbly 20 mil for a Fields match. The Knicks went years stapped because of signings like A. Houston, etc. The same years were followed up by medioracy and insults from around the country. At this point I'm not interested in signing Lin or Fields. This is not level headed thinking at all. You people seem to think that all is lost if the knicks don't sign Lin. I say give some unsigned undrafted PG a chance. Its better than killing your future with these signing. All you people suggesting that we match these bogus contracts, ask yourself this question.....if the Knicks sign Lin and Fields and as presently constructed will the beat the Heat, the Celtics or even the Nets at this point and in particular if the Nets get Howard? I don't think so, so whats the signed these guys at any cost idea coming from? Its maddness and will further complicate their cap for years to come. The Knicks need to come to the realization that Stat has to be moved at and any all cost. Look, Joe Johnson got moved.....something can be done with Stat, just make the attempt at least. I don't believe in Lin as much as some of you. You'll all find out this year no matter where he plays, he'll have to preforms on a nightly basis on NBA level PG play.

Jason Kidd can teach any undrafted point guard just the same as he can groom Lin as some of you suggest. The only difference is that Lin has a 25 game and a 6 team kicked around the league jump on a undrafted PG. No real big difference there. The difference would of course be say 5 mil for three years for unsigned draftee or 28 mil for 4 for a 25 game ultra media superstar in Lin!

Knicks still need to get a true proven point guard. Sessions and Felton are still out there. Kidd is old and Lin is a question mark... but overall having Kidd is a step in the right direction.

And now here will come the NY fans saying how young and rejuvenated Kidd looks all of a sudden
