Nats committed to shutting Strasburg down

Will the Nats' owners pressure GM Rizzo to play Strasburg if the Nats make the playoffs and the WS?
Remember, professional sports is ALL about $$$ and having Strasburg pitch in the playoffs and/or WS adds more $$$$$ to the owner's pockets.
Just a thought...

September is a way off so worry about it then.

Really? interesting comment. And if they pitch him and he breaks down again during the expected "shutdown" period - then the team risks multiple years of problems, the management gets blamed and etc. etc. etc. Shut him down.... give him the rest and maybe, just maybe - he'll be around for more years....

Have you ever heard of Mark Prior and Kerry Woods?

The young man was brought up to the majors very quickly, and his body obviously did not have time to mature and get used to the demands of pitching every fourth/fifth day, which is a big difference from college ball schedules and length of season.
It the Nats don't rethink the demands they are making on his body they will have a broken-down young pitcher on their hands in another couple of years.
Old story, get the young phenom to the majors and use him too often too soon. Nothing new here, but you'd think that management would have learned something about these situations by now.

There has to be a middle ground. The Nats shouldnt risk his entire career by overusing him this season. However, to quote a coach from another sport, YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME. The Nats are in first place, approaching the all star break, they have to start thinking about the playoffs. Next year is this year. Send him to the bullpen, keep him at the game at reduced innings.

The baseball fates have a weird sense of humor. If they shut him down this season, who would be surprised if he gets injured early next by some stroke of dumb luck? maybe by pulling a hammie while legging out a double?
