Why Yandle's unlikely to land in Detroit

08:27 AM ET 07.06 | Just how many teams are turning to Plan B after losing out on Ryan Suter. Don't be surprised if the Red Wings come calling on Phoenix for Keith Yandle after losing out on Suter, but I'm not sure there's a fit there. For starters, it would take a strong offer for the Coyotes to move Yandle. ... Yandle has four more years at a $5.25 million cap hit, less than what Matt Carle signed for in Tampa on Wednesday night ($5.5 million average salary) and the same as what Dennis Wideman ($5.25 million AAV) got in Calgary. I like Wideman and Carle (I think Carle in particular has always been underrated), but they're not Yandle. However, if the Coyotes get a serious enough offer for Yandle, my guess is they'd rather move him to the Eastern Conference.

And the mods decided that it was a noteworthy story about a player who someone actually thought wouldn't go to Detroit. I mean that's like a "Man bites Dog" story.

Why would they trade Yandle. Very good player with a reasonable cap hit.

Don't feed BGM.

It was obvious, at least to me, that with the innundation of these stories that Detroit was going to whiff on all the big names. Ken's shrewd, replacing Lidstrom and Stuart with...no one. It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off.

I was talking to this lady up in Michigan and he was chattering how the Wings needed strong, young, healthy defencemen and suddenly the line went dead....

exactly....there's a writer somewhere saying ..."what kind of crap can I make up that si.com will listen to..?"..."ohhhhh I got one"

Still, Yandle would be a great catch. One I'd like more than Suter.

Holland's doing a Jedi mind trick on opposing teams. They'll come into the Joe and be bewildered that they have no defencemen, causing erratic play. Then, once visiting team realizes this, they be laughing so hard Datsyuk will skate by and score !
