Glendale taxpayers may torpedo Coyotes sale

08:35 AM ET 07.06 | The ice is again thinning in the Arizona heat. Once again, threats to the sale of the Phoenix Coyotes are mounting, which means the NHL is facing some unappetizing choices over the future of the franchise. A petition to overturn a city sales-tax increase was delivered to suburban Glendale city officials Thursday. It could torpedo Greg Jamison's proposed purchase of the Coyotes from the league. Another petition to put the lease for Jobing.com Arena, one that is to pay prospective owner Greg Jamison $324-million (all currency U.S.) over 20 years, to a public vote is due either Monday or July 16. ... [If] the petition is filed and upheld, then the lease approved by city council last month will go into limbo until November.

So there is going to be at least one more season with the Coyotes still in Phoenix.

I think they should just cut ties and go. This dog won't hunt, just move on. Apologies to the real fans out there, but it's time.

The question is if it is delayed till the fall does Doan stay or go?

exactly. He's been nursing his Brandy Alexander for years now

I'd like to see them move but maybe to another hockey market in the West. I think there's an overload in the East and if they moved to Quebec or KC or any of those other previously mentioned, it'll cause an unfair tilt on the schedules.

What about Seattle? Get a little rivalry going with Vancouver? or keep them in the desert and put them in Las Vegas. They'd rival with the Kings that way.

I guess what I'm saying is that this experiment in Glendale has failed miserably.

My feeling as wannabe Commisioner?
If it must be US based, K.C. deserves a real chance. But the Seattle angle is absolutely a fine idea
Canadian? (someone could tell Le Mal Dwarf where that country is)

Don't be sorry Spiny. Argos doesn't follow pro hockey. He's a Leafs fan.
