Dirk told Kidd: 'Go to New York'

06:33 AM ET 07.07 | Jason Kidd talked to Dirk Nowitzki on Wednesday to inform him the duo that had teamed for an NBA championship would be together for three more years. Then, something happened. "I went out to play golf and I just didn't feel right," Kidd said Friday. "I talked to my wife and to Jeff [Schwartz, his agent] and they both said, if you don't feel comfortable, don't do it.'" So Kidd didn't. Sometimes, change is the most comfortable thing a person can do. Kidd said his switch on Thursday came with the blessing of Nowitzki and, largely, because the New York Knicks offered him a chance to further his legacy. If anybody can mold that group of talented but disconnected individuals into a team, it might just be Kidd. "I changed my mind, and Dirk understood," Kidd said. "When we talked, he said to go to New York."

Well I guess Dirk is really upset with Cuban's antics of the past year!

What Cuban did to Dirk was like sending 'I'll have another' (the horse that almost won the Triple Crown this year) to the glue factory when he still had a shot at more victories.

Dirk is the captain and must remain with the sinking ship.

Dirk probably said, "Your a true dork " but with his accent Jason thought he said New York.

When Cuban swung and missed at D-Will Dirk knew it wouldn't make a difference with or without Kidd on the Mavs.

Dirk is a class act. He knows JKidd's time is dwindling and he doesn't want him to stick around on a rebuilding team. JKidd would really do well w/ the Knicks and they'll be happy that JKidd went there. Jkidd is a veteran and knows where to give the ball and can really control the game. These NY fans will soon find out how a veteran PG like JKidd will be very beneficial to the team. They will be very grateful that he will be the coach on the court and he will give a calming influence to their big 3 especially Melo... Good luck JKidd. I'm pulling for you and I'm hoping that you will help NY get a title within 3 years...

Must be a German thing. Cube has stepped into doo-doo BIG time for sure. Losing Kidd and JET, what's the game plan for backcourt help, Sessions from the Lakers? Child please, Ramon couldn't get it do in LaLa Land, no way he is the answer in BIG D.

Cuban gambled big and lost big. Clear all that cap room and then to not get DWill and doesn't look like they are geting Howard will set them back. They have the look of a 7-8th seed if they get a servicable PG or resign Delonte. If they don't complete one of the other they are on the outside looking in from a playoff perspective. A team like the TWolves are looking to steal their playoff spot.

Kidd will do well in NY!!!

Couldn't agree more, GB. This really helps the Knicks.

As much as I hate where we (Mavs fans) are right now, I'm gonna be a Knicks supporter for awhile.

Mavs look like they are targeting next year for rebuilding. If Howard signs with Nets, this will mean two targets (Dwill, DH) that Cuban has missed on. It will be interesting to see what Cuban will do.

Oh and Sessions is not the right guy. I agree that he should not be signed for more than $5mil, and even that is generous.

So another year wasted for Dirk. Fans are gonna start flipping off Cuban when they hear that message.

Realistically, Dirk was indifferent about Kidd.
Dallas no longer has Tyson Chandler, and Jason Terry.
Kidd is a good pg still, but isn't the key to getting them another championship and Dirk knows it.
Dallas probably has something in the works that the public isn't aware of...hopefully.
