Marlins owner not giving up

08:52 AM ET 07.08 | During a front-office summit a couple weeks ago, one Marlins official talked about this season simply not working out and suggested Miami play the season out without making trade. Then Jeffrey Loria, who was on the phone, said absolutely not, that this team can compete with anyone and he isn't giving up. That's why the Carlos Lee trade followed a week later, even though factions of the front office initially opposed the idea, because of Lee's subpar defense and the fact the Marlins believe Logan Morrison would be better at first base than left field.

The Marlins really had nothing to lose by getting Lee. This is call renting a player for the rest of the season and at the end you say see you.

That unnamed Marlin's official should no longer have a job.

Carlos Lee is an upgrade over Gaby Sanchez, but is not the answer. The Marlins need help.
I cannot believe some dumbasses pick them to win the division. Child, please.

I'd like to see Loria take his ass and go. Don't care for the Marlins, but what that jackass did up in Montreal with the firesales and then doing the same in Miami is unexcusable to me as a baseball fan. Give up Loria. Go away.

I actually do like the Marlins but cannot stomach this owner, or his midget son in law who is a complete gas bag. They need to go.

Agree 100%. I have't forgotten Montreal either--Loria ruined a perfectly good franchise because he thought he could make more money by moving it. (And Selig helped him get away with it.) I don't believe for a minute that it was Loria who wanted to spend more money--unless they were spending less than the floor required by MLB.
