Valentine unhappy with Red Sox pitching coach?

09:13 AM ET 07.08 | Three straight big first innings by the Yankees against Red Sox pitching may have given a window into a growing disconnect between Boston manager Bobby Valentine and pitching coach Bob McClure. Asked about Boston's season-long struggles in the first frame, Valentine acknowledged it was an issue and was at a loss for an explanation. "If there was a solution, it would be solved," he said. "Bob McClure is down there warming them up and bringing them in and they have a game plan. It just seems a lot of guys have struggled in the first inning." The Red Sox have a first-inning ERA of 6.35 this season, fueling speculation that Valentine is unhappy with McClure. The manager has answered that by saying McClure was his choice for pitching coach. But Valentine did hire Randy Niemann to the unusual job of assistant pitching coach. He and Niemann have a history from working together in the Mets' organization.

And the soap opera continues....

Is Bobby forgetting who's ultimately responsible?

Sounds like one of his Baseball Tonight bits from last year "You gotta take a look at the Pitching Coach and pregame preparation".

McClure was hired by Cherington before Bobby V. was hired by Lucchino. It's going to get much worse before it gets better while this regime sucks the every last dime out of "Red Sox Nation". Good times never seemed so good, so good, so good.

I probably shouldn't have gotten involved. It's between you and WWJ. Thankfully, I was not yet alive in 1960 to see Mazerowski's home run in game 7.

Everyone at the house used to stop what they were doing when Mantle came up to bat. When Maris hit that number 61 it' was all anybody talked about. Still the cleanest record for homeruns I think.
