10:06 AM ET 07.08 | Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay took advantage of the sports world rising early Sunday to watch the Men's Wimbledon Final to provide an update on contract talks with No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck. The framework of Luck's deal has been in place. The four-year deal will be fully guaranteed, worth around $24 million and include a signing bonus worth just over $14.5 million along with a team-held option for a fifth season. With around three weeks to go until training camp, none of the first eight picks in the 2012 NFL Draft has signed a contract, but those dominoes are expected to fall in the next few weeks.

I thought they capped some of this rookie contract foolishness in the new CBA. $24 mil guaranteed doesn't look like they did a very good job.

I agree. That offensive line is worse than the Bears' line, and that's bad! Also, there really isn't much of a defense to speak of. Chuck Pagano said that Donald Brown is an every down back. Many of us in Indiana are still giggling.

Not too bad over 4 yrs when you consider Stafford was given a 6-yr $72M contract with $41+ guaranteed.

The best rookie in the draft should make less then the lowest paid starter in the league. which of the top QB's in this years draft going to compete for the "Ryan Leaf" trophy.

Tannehill is the clear choice.

QUOTE(#10):

It would have been nice if they traded up and drafted Trent Richardson also. Give your rookie QB a stud RB to help make his life easier.

I don't think there is any way they could have gathered enough pieces and draft picks to trade for that. The Browns wanted him pretty badly.

It's thinking like this that keeps the Cowboys where they are.

Ya know Luck should tell em I;ll give back 1/2 the signing bonus if Blow Hard Irsay plays QB in the first game, let's see how his Oline defends him

If some reports are true, it is not about team money. It is about outside endorsements and the like that Luck can do. don't know. But it is more than just about how much is guaranteed money.

"none of the first eight picks in the 2012 NFL Draft has signed a contract"

So maybe, just maybe, there really is no story here at all.

Yeah, like the Colts won't sign him! This would have been a "story" in the days of no rookie salary scale.

July 8, 2012  12:36 PM ET

Irsay didn't mention a insurance policy for himself in case Luck becomes disable from the beating he is going to take and unable to complete his contract.

If I was Luck I'd fake a nagging injury for a season or two until the Colts can assemble an offensive line.
