Hamilton and his 104 steals speed closer to the bigs

08:14 AM ET 07.09 | Reds prospect Billy Hamilton had his own Bobblehead Day on Sunday for the Bakersfield Blaze, but he'll start the second half with Class AA Pensacola. Who knows where he'll be in September and October? I wouldn't bet against Cincinnati, however. Hamilton, a .323-hitting shortstop, is Dusty Baker's kind of guy. He's an athletic game-breaker, and you've got to think he'll be on the Reds' bench at some point this season, even if it's only to pinch run three or four times a week -- or maybe once a game in the playoffs. ... He swiped 103 bases with Dayton in the Midwest League, becoming the first minor leaguer in a decade to have triple-figure stolen bases, and his goal this year is to steal 146, which would break Vince Coleman's modern minor league record of 145. He had 104 for Bakersfield.

I'd be happy to see a guy with 100 steal capability in the bigs, even if it is with the Reds. Takes me back to the days of Vince Coleman and Whitey-Ball.

Hamilton's only problem would be - since he plays SS he would only get spot play with the Reds since Zach Cozart is now the everyday SS - Would be nice for the Reds with his speed if he could play CF where he could cover alot of ground and also hit good enough to be a lead off hitter the two areas where the Reds are lacking.

Oh, yeah! I loved the team and that era. Vince, Ozzie, Willie...with Herr, Van Slyke, Pendleton, and Clark to drive 'em in.

It's time to put Heisey in CF and move Brandon to leadoff. And sad to say, move Rolen out and put Frazier at 3rd full time.

Those were good days, even though I wasn't a Reds fan. Liked those teams!

If you move Brandon to lead-off then you have no-one who can be a big enough threat in the line-up to protect them from pitching around Votto. I agree Rolens got to go, and Fraziers time is now, it will happen before the end of the season. They need a true lead-off hitter and right now I don't think there's one on the roster.

Right now the reds are in a Pennant Race, I would have him play the outfield or Third Base!

It is all good that Hamilton can run like a greyhound and steal bases. But as he moves up the ladder let us see if he can hit a fast ball with movement and a curve ball before all of you have him in the Hall of Fame.

The Tigers need to trade for this boy and move him to 2nd base.
