08:21 AM ET 07.09 | In the event he doesn't sign in Phoenix, Shane Doan will likely have plenty of options. If [Doan] is willing to listen, the Red Wings will pitch hard for him to come to Detroit. Doan has been an unrestricted free agent for more than a week, but his situation is different because he has been waiting to see how the ownership and arena situation in Glendale, Ariz., will play out. That is supposed to be cleared up today, though the issues could drag on into mid-July. As of a few days ago, Doan let it be known he'd start taking offers from other teams this week. The Wings will make one, knowing Doan doesn't want to leave Phoenix. In all likelihood, he'll end up signing a one-year deal with the Coyotes, just in case the franchise ends up relocating.

I smell a Burke offer. And I wouldn't hate it.

I love this speculative codsawllup
Go through all the permutations, then say " In all likelihood, he'll end up signing a one-year deal with the Coyotes"

Doan could be a nice addition in Detroit. Wouldnt mind seeing him as a part of that roster.

He's just about the right age to fit into that group too.

I didn't realize Shane had a concussion last year.

Was wondering if I'd be able to beat you to this. I should have Doan better.

Everyone spent so much time on this and that and every free agent going to Detroit. We should have concentrated on the older FAs that Detroit should sign to keep the age lines going. Concentrating on Suter and Parise really made them miss the boat on Whitney and Broudeur.

True. But, Tim Thomas and Sean Doan are still out there. And, they can always coax Mike Modano out of retirement. :-)

I thought Howard was their guy?

Darn it! I forgot! We signed Jonas Gustavsson! Who needs TT?

Didn't you get the memo? The kid's too young to be any good. The fans of the league will be damned if the Wings' average age drops to the middle of the pack! How else will the recognize them?...besides the well revered Winged Wheel and overall brilliance of play.

This article is silly. All UFA's want to go to Detroit.

Yet. It's just that Ken Holland is smarter than the average GM. He won't give in to their outrageous demands.

Hold the line, Ken! Hold the line! Don't mortgage our future for short sighted gain!

For some reason I keep smelling Semin in Detroit.

The Rainbow Coalition will love seeing Semin in the Joe.

Wash yer sheets:) I never liked Doan as a 'C', maybe as second line player the pressure would be off. More band-aid than fix.

Doan did have one good game against the Kings, but just about did every other team, so I can't fault hi for that. But the other two playoff seasons, not much showing.
