08:11 AM ET 07.10 | Dwight Howard playing for his hometown franchise? The Hawks have engaged the Magic in trade talks involving Howard, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions. That person did not want to be identified because the teams involved have not discussed the negotiations publicly. The Hawks could offer Orlando better players than the Nets. But Atlanta could run the risk of trading away valuable assets only to lose Howard in free agency when his contract expires after next season. Howard has given no indication he's willing to commit beyond next season to any team other than Brooklyn. ... That makes dealing for Howard potentially risky for all teams but Brooklyn. But the team that acquires Howard would have some leverage.

We don't want Cryward if we're losing Al.
For a package of Smith, Teague picks is a fair trade and a reasonable risk to take.

Given the new CBA rules I think any teams that signs trades for him has a great chance of retaining him for the long haul. I hope the Bulls get in the fray.

The Nets are over the cap with DWill, Joe Johnson & Gerald Wallace. Dallas won't have a championship core next season either... neither will any of the big market teams. So if Dwight wants to have his way he'll have to settle for the mid level exception or join a team like Cleveland, Charlotte, Portland or New Orleans.
So if I'm Magic management I'll call bluff and make him play out this season. If he doesn't play hard I'll bench him the entire season so we can get a high draft pick. Any team that wants Dwight will have to do a sign and trade with Magic anyway....

Sorry but Atlanta is not NY (Brooklyn) or LA... Cryward would have a fit.

Incorrect, he will be an unrestricted FA. Now, if you are referring to the situation that the Cavs did with LBJ, that was ONLY after the announcement of his leaving and the Cavs did the sign and trade to enable LBJ to get more money and a longer deal. The Cavs got a few draft picks and some cap space. Orlando and whomever Dwight agrees to play for will not be forced to do a sign and trade.
