08:18 AM ET 07.11 | This past march March, one of the top cornerback prospects in the country, Tee Shepard, left Notre Dame shortly before spring practice. [Shepard] will play this season at College of the Sequoias, the Fresno Bee recently reported. College of the Sequoias is a community college in Visalia, Calif. ... Because ND lost starting cornerbacks Gary Gray and Robert Blanton, coupled with a thin depth chart at the spot, Shepard was expected to contribute early for the Irish. He and cousin Deontay Greenberry, a wide receiver, had been longtime commits to the Irish, but Greenberry signed with Houston on signing day. "Tee definitely is a high-profile player," College of the Sequoias coach Robert Dougherty told the Bee.

They make him sound like bigfoot...

Why'd the kid leave ND? Was his hearing being damaged from the sideline rants?

Wow. That's harsh.

I can understand why he'd walk away from a free education at a well-respected university.

Don't miss your chance to keep yourself from posting poorly due to meter issues.

When you're 18 it is difficult to know what you really want in a college experience, especially as an elite athlete. That is unless you surround yourself with "enablers" telling you to get the greatest exposure possible because you are a "lock" to make millions in the NFL. I think he committed prematurely to the Irish probably after the euphoria of a campus visit and a coaching staff fawning over you. He did the right thing by "circling the wagons" and taking his time for a year at a community college. Wherever he winds up next will (most likely) be because he did his homework and made a more "informed" decision. Who knows, it still might be ND...

I was thinking it sounded more like a Jimmy Hoffa-type story.

Sequoias used to be a Prop 48 school. Always had D1 talent. Looks like that hasn't changed.

How in the heck does a community college manage to afford to field a football team?

Joe,

Almost all the AZ, CA, and TX CC's do as far as I know.

I would think that they do not travel nearly as much and probably do not have the level of equipment and facilities on hand. But that is just a guess. I think you ask a great question. I would be interested to know that as well. Do they have large stadiums or is more like HS stadiums?

Bag men from the SEC fund it as a way to funnel talent to the league. Cheaper to buy $cam at Blinn CC than it was at Aubie....economics of the game.

In Texas, the JC's stadiums are about like 3A HS's, half the size of real HS fb
