Summer heat is on QBs in Austin

08:19 AM ET 07.11 | Even in the offseason, questions persist in Austin -- and they have little to do with the defense. After all, the No. 1 summer activity in Austin, besides complaining about the heat, is speculating about Texas' quarterback situation. It's been in a state of flux since [Colt McCoy] departed after the 2009 season. Sophomore David Ash appears to have the edge over junior Case McCoy entering fall camp. But nothing is etched in stone, which is the way coach Mack Brown and his staff want it. The predominant thought in the Bevo Nation, however, is Texas will go only as far as its quarterback takes it. Talk about heat. But when it comes to the offense, the keys to success extend well beyond that single position.

The humor value will be thru the roof if SMU has a great passing attack and Texas struggles....

Sounds like a Bammer QB job description.

So what! It's always hot in Austin during the summer. For that matter, it's hot everywhere in Texas in the summer....dammit.

That's a baaaad thing. Gators know from experience. Our ace kicker was injured (2 years ago? last year? don't recall exactly) and it caused all sorts of problems. Had to go for it on 4th when we normally would've gone for the FG, and we didn't have a strong short yardage game. And late in the game when you just want to get to the 30 for a chance at the winning FG, we had to make it more like the 15 as the target for a decent chance. Sucked royally.

I'd like to see them do away with the goal posts. Since that won't happen, not having a kicked can be BAAADDDDD.
Do like Leach did a few years ago and have the student body try out. He found one...at least pretty good.

It's a bad thing when Alabama does it, but when Texas does it....

This will happen. Course look at the SOS to determine the real reason for it. GG can light up secondaries with less of a rush

It's not a bad thing if either one do it IMHO. I just can't believe that teams like Bama and UTx can't get SEVERAL QBs that are capable of executing a good passing game. It sure looks like they get MANY top notch players in other positions.

Will have to remember to post passing stats at least once a month for both team just to spin up our LH mafia once the season starts.
