08:21 AM ET 07.11 | Newly introduced in Minnesota, Ryan Suter says he believes he was straightforward with the Predators during his free-agent negotiations. This is why Suter, a former Predators defenseman, wanted to discuss his feelings about leaving Nashville with The Tennessean on Thursday. On July 4, Suter signed a 13-year, $98 million deal with the Wild. "It's something that happened. And the fact that I do get to be close to home with my wife and my kid, for me to be close to home, it all worked out," Suter said. ... "I have never tried to hide anything from anybody," Suter said. "I wanted it to work in Nashville, but the decision I made was to move on, and I'm sorry for the hurt that it has brought to David Poile and to the Predators."

No man should apologize for choosing to work closer to home to spend more time with his family

This is absurd. The PA should file a harassment charge against Poile and the Preds.

Well you really don't know what he told Poile or what Poile told him or what the agent said or anything. It's business. People lie (i.e., say things that aren't true) all the time to enhance their position or sell their product or earn a big contract.

It certainly seems like he told Poile he was testing FA, Poile took it as "OH he's going to stay", and now he's all pissed.

this is absurd. Why he should feel the need to apologise is ridiculous. If an apology is owed, maybe Polie should?
And maybe Suter could have been honest and said...if he felt he had to....that he just wanted to play with his new bff

Perhaps Poile saw his future employment go out the door with Suter and that made him a trifle irked.

Key phrase "seems like". The story also quotes Suter that he "wanted it to work in Nashville ". Seems like Poile understood that to mean he wanted to stay. Well looks like he didn't want it to work as much as Poile did. Hey, it's his decision. But again, we really don't know what they tell each other, only what they tell the writers.

And really so what. I have been arguing with my fellow Devil fans who say the same thing about Parise, that he lied to the fan base (all 4 of us). Neither of these guys said they were definately staying with their respective teams. The decided to play closer to their home and get paid nearly 100 mil to do that. Who would say no to that?

You mean like a restraining order against an ex? In a lot of ways this like a regular breakup, including the "I wanted it to work in Nashville" bit. I've broken up with several great, really nice people just because it wasn't the right fit...that and they were awful. Anyway, you'd like it to work cuz they're nice, but you can't continue in that loser situation. Poile seems nice.

Yep. But, then what would FN do if there weren't rehashes of all this stuff?
Wait for the story when Parise apologises to Devils fans. He'll do it in person, one by one. It will take 5 minutes ;)
Nobody expects…
