Is Vlasic the only D-man to settle for less?

08:26 AM ET 07.12 | Often, the nearer to free agency a player gets, the more likely he is to test the market -- but that's not Marc-Edouard Vlasic, who agreed to a five-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season in San Jose. Vlasic will earn $21 million over the length of the contract, a $4.2 million cap hit that almost seems a bargain compared to what some other young blue-liners have made as free agents this summer. ... He has another year to go on his current pact that will pay him $3.1 million and would have been able to test the free agent market a year from now at 26. "To me, I like to have something that's known, secure, already set," Vlasic said. "To me unrestricted means you're not sure what's going to happen."
