08:27 AM ET 07.12 | College hockey fans in the Midwest will have a treat this February in the form of the Hockey City Classic doubleheader. The details unfurled as expected, with Notre Dame set to face Miami (Ohio) and Minnesota playing Wisconsin in the first hockey games at Soldier Field. Starting times and broadcast details are undetermined. This, however, remains completely clear: the Chicago Park District's vision of the Hockey City Classic smoothing the ice for an NHL Winter Classic game featuring the Blackhawks. Losing the 2009 event to Wrigley Field was a keen disappointment. ... "Do I think this could pave the way to a future NHL (Winter Classic)? I certainly think so," Park District general superintendent and CEO Michael Kelly said.

You want a nightmare? Last year we finally got WHL back in town. They just hired Cameron Hope, Rags VP and assistant GM to Sather for seven years. If that's not scary enough, he's got Cory Clouson on a shortlist for coach!

This story show that the minor leagues are smarter than the NHL. They are going to have their show at Soldier Field. What did the NHL do when they had a chance? They took their Winter Classic to the rat infested Wrigley Field where even the roaches are on steroids.

LOL. Good point roamer. The NHL did miss the boat on that one. To that college classic at soldier (which looks to be a cant miss), as a MN alum i was hoping to see a UM and ND clash. Looks like they are just one offs on the same day. Side note: The coach of the gophers has a son Mario who is a freshman at ND. Itd be interesting to see if he could stick it to the old man.
