08:20 AM ET 07.13 | A dream season has hit its first offseason roadbump. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier expects the Los Angeles Kings to meet his trade demand before training camp. Bernier, in an interview with TVA Sports, said he believes he is ready to become a first-string goalie and he likely won't get that chance in Los Angeles, where the Kings have signed Jonathan Quick to a 10-year contract extension. Bernier said he asked to be moved before the Feb. 27 trade deadline, but the Kings refused. The native of Laval, Que., said he would prefer to play closer to home, adding that he anticipates a trade before training camps are scheduled to open in September. The 23-year-old had a 5-6-2 record and 2.36 goals-against average in 16 games.

what is it about some guys that they just can't accept the role they play? Back-Up goalies seem most afflicted by this. I knoweveryone wants to play, I get that. But guys have trouble realising they aren't starters.

A .909 save percentage playing on a team who's priorities are 1) defense 2) defense 3) defense, 4) offense does not make one a first string goalie. I can however understand his desire to leave LA and go to a team where he will get more play time.

He's clearly angling to become the Leafs new goalie. I just don't see what Toronto gives that LA wants (HIDE THE PICKS!!!).

Exactly. His numbers aren't that impressive and he's only played a total of 48 games since the 2007 - 2008 season. Methinks his ego is bigger than his pads.

Bryz - one ring as a backup

I think your math is off a bit.

It will be interesting to see how Rask and Schneider fare this year.

Intended target was you -- gotcha

Anyway -- Bernier is good enough to be a starter on most teams. Quick was his backup until Bernier got hurt. He's better than a lot of people think.

Finally, using your math -- Bryz > Lundquist -- Recheck your math

Not a Bernier apologist, but I argued earlier in the season that Quick was a top 2 -3 goalie in the league and about got laughed off FN. Its hard on the right coast to see hockey from the left coast and have good read on talent - unless you are intentional about it

The native of Laval, Que., said he would prefer to play closer to home.

So he wants a trade to the Yotes?

Last I checked, Lundquist is a starter. I was comparing Bernier and Bryz as backups, so my math holds. Yours is more a product of a politician. You aren't a politician are you?

As a starter, obviously Bryz has a ways to go.
