08:38 AM ET 07.14 | Joe Johnson is known for his quiet, laid-back demeanor, but didn't miss a chance to take a shot at the Knicks when he was asked who is the city's best team. "The Nets," he said. "Definitely the Nets."

Ask him who the Eastern Conference's best team is... I'll bet he doesn't say "Nets".

I wonder if MJ is going to mock Joe (like he did Kobe) because the Bulls were the best EC team.

meh.....until Lopez breaks his foot again and Crash runs into a wall at full speed....Oh yeah the Nets still have Avery Johnson's head coaching to overcome to be the best team in NY.....

July 14, 2012  09:49 AM ET

what do you expect him to answer? why dont you ask MJ whether his team has a chance to win the title next year?

Ikr, the Nets on paper should be a BIGGER draw vs. the Knicks. Adding a Tar Heel (Stackhouse) to the team will encourage me to keep an eye on Brooklyn. Avery needs to start out the gate FAST if he wants to keep his gig.

Yeah, what was he supposed to say? I'm sure there will always be some of this now that there are two teams in NY. Good for a rivalry, good for competition.

Some things are better left unsaid. Johnson shouldn't have allowd himself to be baited into answering such a dumb question.

They say pride goeth before failure. He hasn't played a single game and he's already calling shots. Other thing is Joe's not known to be the rah rah type so this is totally whacked out. In the city it costs to brag so he better come correct with the Nets... I have a feeling he will get hurt or the Nets season will be catastrophic....

I won't say "definitely" but I do think the Nets are a better team now. Gerald Wallace is great as a 3rd or 4th option and a good defender. I really like the CJ Watson signing too. They could really benefit if they can get another big guy, but I think Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries are good enough

I don't think this is as dumb as some of you guys are saying it is. They have the potential to sell more tickets and build up more hype and publicity for both teams if they start a small rivalry in the media. It would carry on when they play other teams also because both teams are likely playoff teams and it will make money. If they aren't as good as Johnson predicts, I don't think people are going to be replaying this interview and asking him embarrassing questions. He's supposed to think his team is better.

Look, for all you cats who don't know the City (and apparantly Joe doesn't), loudmouths such as Johnson (not normally his character) should know or at least someone should have told him that the Nets are a 2nd rate low level franchise in the eyes of New Yorkers now and always and the won't change no matter what. Its like the Mets and all their bravado yapping about the Yanks, and the same applies for the always underachieveing Jets rambling on trying the compare their fraudulent selves with the always and ever impressive Giants. It just ain't happening baby. Joe shut up and see how many people you can draw to downtown Brooklyn buddy. The Nets have a history of this bogus conduct and this grossly overpaid sub par superstar in slow your roll Joe, say it ain't so, just needs to shut his bogus trap. The Nets.....2nd rate and pathetic, simple as that!

and my friend you are delusional if you think the Nets will ever replace the Knicks. You cannot know New York at all!
