09:21 AM ET 07.14 | How Dan Haren rebounds from his injury could go a long way toward determining whether the Angels pursue a starting pitcher -- several prominent veterans, including Cole Hamels, Zack Greinke, Matt Garza and Wandy Rodriguez, could be available -- before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Roll the dice with Haren coming back for two reasons. Right now you are good enough to get into the playoffs with what you have now and the other thing is why rent a player and give up some future you will need down the road.

if the angels were to trade for a starter then lost that starter in the free agency at the end that deal would be a none sense,,,,

July 14, 2012  11:22 AM ET

only and that would be the only reason if the angels should trade for a solid and conssistant pitcher if its the type of a talented as cole hamels then the halos should trade for him but the angels should sign him to a long term as soon the trade has been completed, in other words any trade for a really good starter let that starter walk away in the off season, its not a good thing at all then every effort from the halos would go to waste!!

July 14, 2012  11:29 AM ET

the angels THINK that they can trust dan haren, the angels EXPECT ervin santana to compete to his capabilities, the angels HOPE that jerome williams regain his control at the mound in every outing after the ASG, the angels THOUGHT to have a great starter in richards only to find out that he still needs to be polished a little bit longer in their minors,,, you see there are too many inconssistant starters in the angels rotation and with haren santana williams the angels are a easy prey to any good team or below 500 team!!

July 14, 2012  11:33 AM ET

if the halos HOPE and EXPECT to win ALL this season then they would need to bring a very THOUGH starter through the trade deadline, if the halos DO NOT do that then they would be a mockering team in the first round at the playoffs IF they do make it to the playoffs!!

You need to have your head examined if you're going to count on Haren as the seasons savior.

Well it looks like Philly is going to do everything they can to lock up Hamels so we can cross him off the list.............................oooh, Wandy Rodriguez though!<chuckles>

nice.

The Angels are notorious for not giving up their young talent, and that is what it will take to get a front-line starter. Maybe they have another outfielder stuck behind Trout/Trumbo/ Bourjos/ Davis/Hunter, though, that they could part with. Or maybe they Bourjos could be traded?

July 14, 2012  11:43 AM ET

the GM knows that haren has been PLAYING injuried the whole season, the GM its aware about ervin santana INCONSISTANT almost in the whole season and if the GM expects SANTANA to be at his right capable level in every outing he may have to seat down, beacause it seems it would be a long time before SANTANA really pitch in a solid consistant game, JEROME WILLIAMS its just another fluke as a pitcher, yes he was good for 10 games last season, yes he was good this year for another ten games but the starter has show tiring arm and has gone south in his last 3 outings, i wouldn't trust this 3 players at all unless they prove me wrong, otherwise to me the halos still walking in two limbs, JERED WEAVER, CJ WILSON!!

July 14, 2012  11:49 AM ET

YES the angels are in TROUBLE thanks to a 3 very inconssistant starters, and WITHOUT a solid # 3 and 4 starter the team ALWAYS would be expose to a FAIL GOAL in every game when those 3 pitchers get to pitch offcourse!!

July 14, 2012  11:51 AM ET

We need another pitcher regardless. Santana needs to go. Way too inconsistent.

July 14, 2012  11:55 AM ET

the problem shouldn't be WHO the team could trade, but do the halos have any GUARANTEE in been able to sign that new pitcher to a long term?? and if so can the angels AFFORT the tag on that free agent pitcher TOP QUALITY PLAYER AS HAMELS???

the GM its completely WRONG if he indeed thinks that haren santana williams would be able to PERFORM better in the second half of the season, plus with the angels RAQUITIC AND ANEMIC OFFENSE this pitchers they do pitch even WORSE!!!

July 14, 2012  12:03 PM ET

the ANGELS do need to get together in their own franchise, to be able to compete you need more than two solid starters, and no team has been able to DO THAT at all in the whole baseball history, HALOS either trade for a number one starter or just forget about your goals as a CONTENDERS!!!

July 14, 2012  12:10 PM ET

its too bad that haren has gone south this year, its just too bad to even believe that you did thought to have one of the best rotation in the west division, then santana starts to pitch very poorly haren follows him as well, then jerome williams start to pitch below his pitch level capabilities after that he goes down with a shortness of breath, all this bad things has happened to the halos higher expectation from game one!!

July 14, 2012  12:12 PM ET

the halos haven't any top prospects in their minors, unless they trade a regular 2 players from their team roster one of those players could be santana and richards and vernon wells, or better yet just add tori hunter in that group!!!

July 14, 2012  12:15 PM ET

its truth that any franchise needs to solidify their pitching and pitching should be a top priority in any franchise, never its too much pitching the more pitching you are able to put together the better chances the team can and could have in the futture!!
