07:33 AM ET 07.15 | The artist who painted a post-mortem halo over Joe Paterno's head on a mural featuring the late Penn State football coach erased it on Saturday following a report that found Paterno helped cover up child sex abuse by a former assistant coach. Michael Pilato said he removed the halo on the outdoor mural in State College, Pennsylvania, home of the main Pennsylvania State University campus, and also painted a blue ribbon for child abuse awareness on Paterno's suit. "I think Joe Paterno is an amazing human being. I think he made a major bad decision in his life," Pilato, 43, told Reuters in a phone interview to explain why he altered his mural titled "Inspiration" that was unveiled 12 years ago.

should have placed a pile of dung over his head in the portrait......Far as ending Penn State program for 5-10 years yes.
No organization that profits from the abuse or exploitation of children should remain intact. And 5-10 years will resolve them to do better and clear all those derelict pedophiles from the present slate.
I still hold firm that there are far more skeletons in this tragedy.
I still for the life of me can't understand how any man just can't do all that's possible when they see a grown molesting a young child without trying to kill them.
I just can't understand it

Anyone, before they comment on this, should put themselves in the victim's shoes and then pass judgement. Don't type a word until you see yourself being forced as a child to do some of the things Sandusky had those children doing.

Agreed, the mural should be removed. And if the NCAA has any backbone at all, Penn State football should be given the death penalty.

Agreed. What the top brass at Penn State did goes way beyond what SMU did and they got the death penalty. Ergo, Penn State should too.

Remove the mural, yes...castigate Paterno, yes....throw them all in jail, yes.
Just curious tho....how did what Sandusky do, and the resultant coverup, benefit the PSU Football program? If it is proven that it was done so as not to cause determent to the program...or that money/influence was funneled to the program, then most definitely. That ANYTHING was decided as an influence toward the Athletic Department, then yes.
But I don't think the NCAA is a legal enforcement agency....and really has no say in that.
Of course, given all the discourse since this has come to light, the NCAA will feel compelled to do something and, IMO, will be stepping over their boundaries....

How these demented souls can still worship such a vile human being is beyond my scope.

The NCAA can tell a program to throw a kid off the team because his mother went to a game with a free ticket she got from a friend. The FBI would love to have that kind of reach.

and painting a child abuse ribbon on his suit is akin to painting the Star of David on a portrait of Hitler. Disgusting.

Maybe the NCAA will do something like bar PSU from postseason play, but I doubt anything else is within their jurisdiction. It's a legal matter now.

Why change anything at all? Leave the halo, leave Sandusky in the mural etc ... just add "Hero Worship and Pedophilia" in huge 12" letters across the top.
Sanitizing history in order to make it palatable never works. We want people to remember, not forget, the crimes.

If the friend has connections to the program and it could be construed as "a freebie" for the kid, then yes. Don't necessarily agree with it, but yes...

Exactly....but I think he painted the halo on after the allegations and was an attempt to show that Paterno was innocent...

"Artist erases halo over Paterno's head". Hell, that's not good enough, remove Joe from the Mural altogether!!!

My thoughts exactly! The artist said he usually adds halos when one of the persons represented in the mural dies. I'm glad he removed Paterno's halo, since no one on earth sees him in that light, but WTF was he thinking by adding the blue ribbon to Paterno's likeness.

Its not that it was a benefit to cover up what was happening, it just didnt hurt recruiting if it didnt get out. The fact that this happened and was covered up so as not to hurt the recruiting of the football team should mean death penalty. The message should be sent that if you cover up a crime so your recruiting doesnt suffer you will pay the stiffest penalty.

This just goes to show the administration either didn't believe the kids or didn't give a damn. Also take note that even the judge deferred to paterno in the terms of sentencing.
RT @SBNationCFB: Curtis Enis' agent, not Sandusky, banned from campus RT @sganim: Pretty amazing story within the Freeh report http://t.co/pN8MpzQA

They made a profit from Sandusky tutelage. If you look at it he was rewarded access to young children through the protection of the college personnel that knew him best.
That makes them and the program culpable.
