08:20 AM ET 07.15 | As of Saturday night, a Mavericks source said the franchise is leaning strongly toward submitting a bid on Sunday for amnestied former Rockets forward Luis Scola. The source added, however, that the Mavericks expect other teams' bids to be higher than the one they would submit. Unlike Elton Brand, whom the Mavericks claimed Friday with a bid of $2.1 million on his one-year contract, Scola bidders would have to bid at least $3.3 million for the 2012-13 season and at least $10 million spread over three years. That would cover the non-guaranteed portion of Scola's contract, as required under the amnesty rules.

Aren't Brand and Scola basically the same guy? Trade bait I guess?

Scola is a good player

10 days ago tha Mavs looked like they were in troouble. Now, through the ac process, adding Brand and possibly Scola, and subtracting Haywood, they look pretty good. Good for them.

It was suggested the ac process be a "once every few years" process. I think this is a good idea.

Sorry Luis but I can't say that I've ever heard of you before. Nevertheless my Mavs will be happy to find a spot on the roster for you so long as ya promiss to give it your best effort and play hard every night... unlike that former Laker piece of crap that turned out to be a big disruption on the team.

nah, if they get Scola too, they will be stack at the 4 position. If Dirk plays like 30 mins a game and Kaman plays 25, brand and Scola will be sharing like 41 mins

July 15, 2012  08:59 AM ET

Is Dirk still quick enough to play the 3 ?

QUOTE(#14):

Scola is better than Brand and a whole lot cheaper. It looks like Dallas is able to pick up some good players for pretty cheap prices. It pays to be under the cap so maybe Cuban had a plan after all.

How exactly is Scola cheaper? They got Brand for 1 year at $2.1M. Scola will cost them more money over a longer period of time. They are both relatively cheap and good risks, though.
