09:27 AM ET 07.15 | Day 4 of the 2012 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas ended without Roberto Luongo. The (for now) Vancouver Canucks netminder had a strong showing at the event with his conservative playing style. Luongo finished 634th out of 6,598, earning $19,277, but almost lost most of his winnings on one hand as Poker Listings explains: The Montreal-native survived an early scare when he was all-in with pocket sevens against an opponent's ace-queen. If Luongo had busted on that hand he would have been eliminated just short of the money and gone home $10,000 lighter (although technically PlayNow.com paid his buy-in). Instead Luongo successfully faded all his opponent's outs and scored a pivotal double-up to 185,000 chips. After surviving a pressure-filled money bubble (the money began at 666 players remaining) Luongo made his final play by shoving with pocket fours. Bryan Vanrijsbergen called him down with pocket jacks and the board ran out dry to eliminate Luongo. According to the Vancouver Sun, Luongo will keep his winnings despite having his buy-in taken care of by the B.C. Lottery Corp.

He went all in with pocket 4s? If that's supposed to be conservative play, I don't know what they'd call the way I play. (Probably something like "bad", but that's beside the point.)

Definitely words Mike Gillis should have heeded when giving Booby his contract.

It would have been nice to read at the end of the story that Luongo donated his winnings to a charitable organization since someone else paid his entry fee.

Luongo don't care. It's money for nothing, chips for free.

Why is the BCLC paying for people to play poker in Vegas?
