Harper draws Guillen's ire

08:13 AM ET 07.16 | In somewhat of an upset, Ozzie Guillen didn't want to talk about an in-game incident Sunday. So what led to [Guillen] yelling at Washington Nationals All-Star rookie Bryce Harper in the fourth inning Sunday? Apparently, it all had to do with pine tar. ... Marlins left fielder Logan Morrison, Nationals manager Davey Johnson and Harper all provided some insight afterward. According to Morrison, Guillen told Nationals third base coach Bo Porter, a former Marlins assistant, Harper had too much pine tar on his bat during his first at-bat. "Ozzie did it the right way and then Harper came up the next time and pointed his bat at Ozzie. It was kind of showing him up," Morrison explained.

I love Ozzie!

July 16, 2012  08:45 AM ET

This is the same problem the Sox are having, no chemistry on the ball club and Ozzie wants the focus on him everyday instead of his team.

July 16, 2012  09:09 AM ET

So sick of this guy... Easily the biggest tool ever.

July 16, 2012  09:12 AM ET

Baseball needs Ozzie Guillen about as much as the NFL needs T.O.

July 16, 2012  09:15 AM ET

I guess Harper need a little more Hamels!

July 16, 2012  09:18 AM ET

Guillen was not out of line telling the opposing team's base coach that there was too much pine tar on a batter's bat. He didn't make a big scene as I understand it, just let the other team know it had to be dealt with.
Harper was way out of line, especially as a rookie, in making the belittling gesture towards Guillen on his next at-bat.
Harper is a teen-age punk with enormous physical skilles but a ten cent brain. He'll learn in time, but in the meantime we don't need to cut him any slack when he acts like a jerk!

Funny... I was about to say the same thing about Wonder Boy... Man, he really showed his true colors on that dropped fly in KC, huh?

I was going to give Brycie poo the benefit of the doubt this year, especially after Cole pegged him. I figured it was starting to look like MAYBE his immaturity stayed down in AAA. But he's still a genuine jerkoff. Apparently, it's not something that is going to change. I hope he gets plunked quite a bit if he keeps his **** up.

Ozzie handled it wrong. He should have kept his cool and given the sign to hit him. That's the only way this kid is going to learn that he's still a baby in the grand scheme of things.

Ozzie's a donk anyway, but Harper definitely tried to show him up a little. Still, it was amusing hearing Ozzie praise the guy all week, only to scream "you piece of (spit)" at him during the game!

I agree, a little 'chin music' and a few shots in the back will go a long way with is jerk.

Ozzie....summer's eve....****!!!

July 16, 2012  09:34 AM ET

****!!!

July 16, 2012  09:34 AM ET

haha

If that's really the way it went down, the kid was out of line.

Harper is a punk and Ozzie has a big mouth.

Ozzie did handle this situation properly though....Harper should have been beaned.

In baseball, everything gets settled with a good beaning.

July 16, 2012  09:57 AM ET

Not a bad little attempt by Ozzie to get in the other team's head. I see no problem with it. Of course it isn't going to work, but the Nationals are going to have to prove that they're mentally tough to keep winning games throughout the long summer before the opposition cuts this bush league stuff out.

You base this silly post around a "dropped fly" ?

There was way more to it than what was in the article. Ozzie cried to the umps for a few innings about the pine tar as well.
