08:07 AM ET 07.16 | Many had speculated that Warriors assistant Michael Malone and Pacers associate head coach Brian Shaw were the favorites to land the head job in Orlando. Not anymore. Not after Malone and Shaw fell out of the mix Sunday. Magic general manager Rob Hennigan informed Malone that Malone is no longer being considered, Malone's agent, Steve Kauffman, told the Orlando Sentinel. Meanwhile, a source close to Shaw said that Shaw withdrew from the search. The new front-runner for the Magic job now might be San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Jacque Vaughn, a former Magic player who played for the Spurs when Hennigan worked in the Spurs' front office. Hennigan also interviewed three others over the last week: [Michael Curry, Jeff Hornacek and Lindsey Hunter].

QUOTE(#1):

The new frontrunner in Orlando is MMA............................

You got that right. The Magic have been a disgrace in their handling of the Howard (by not shipping his ass out) and the insistence on how great SVG and Otis were and then firing them at Howard's behest. Yeah this is the same organization who low balled Shaq with its offer with all of the rah rah support from fans in O-Town. Unknow GM is keeping with tradition and now they're going to hire an unknown HC.....good job Magic, its you style.

Thank god Shaw didn't land there!

Wow, now possible coaches are shunning this franchise. Shaw tells them he's no longer interested. He's taking a page out of the Phil Jackson playbook. Don't just take any job so that you can brag you're an NBA head coach, wait for a good job or in Jackson's case wait for a job where the team is title ready.

Jacque Vaughn now Jacque Cousteau soon as this franchise is under water.

Orlando is doomed really. If Howard insist on only going to teams that he picks, and those teams can't make a trade happen or don't have the pieces or desire to make the trade, the Magic are going to get backed into a corner and have to give him away or face losing him like we lost LBJ, for peanuts in a sign and trade at the end. This is becoming the more likely scenario.

They should rehire Stan VanGundy. He's a good teacher, and they will have a lot of rookies.
