08:19 AM ET 07.16 | Perhaps it's because Rick Nash's contract comes with a nearly $8 million cap hit that has teams gun shy about trading for him, or, maybe, it's the NHL's reported hopes to roll back the cap. [If the NHL is] able to "redefine" hockey-related revenue and give the players a smaller percentage of the now-smaller pie, the salary cap is going down. Way down. There are six teams confirmed to be on Rick Nash's "approved" list. Of the six, the Detroit Red Wings ($16.8M) and New York Rangers have the most salary cap room ($15.1M), but this is based on the current CBA model and a $70.3 million salary cap. Will the salary cap by lowered by $10 million? ... If so, Nash's cap hit would seem too much to swallow for Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and San Jose.

haven't heard it yet, but oddly enough during the season it came up in broadcasts a few times

Exactly. Thats why i wondered. I am pretty sure the Players want it gone. The NHL likely will have to give this up as a concession somewhere along the line.
