Which course made Tiger turn pro?

09:17 AM ET 07.17 | Tiger Woods knows Royal Lytham & St. Annes well. It's the course that essentially told him that he was good enough to leave college after two years and turn professional in 1996. Woods spoke with the media Tuesday at the Open Championship and reminisced about playing here in 1996 and winning the silver medal that goes to the week's low scoring amateur. "I remember I got hot in that second round," Woods said. "I think I made seven birdies on an 11-hole stretch or 12-hole stretch there. I think I posted 66 that day. I thought that was a pretty great accomplishment." Eventually, he tied for 22nd place that week, which was better than the 25th-place tie he recorded at Lytham in 2001 as a professional, the year that David Duval captured the claret jug.

I didn't know Woods never completed college. Clearly he turned pro too early. Had he gotten the extra maturity that those extra 2 years would have gained him, he would have had a much more successful career.

Wow! A second golf story this month. We should feel so lucky!
Woods turned pro right after winning his third US Amateur, Jakester. He had a bunch of endorsements all lined up and ready to start paying him millions. Who cares about maturity when you can wipe your butt with 20s.
As for the role Lytham played in his decision, dang, I used to have fond memories of that course....

I know, I was joking. Although not very well apparently. He was going to be uber rich as soon as he turned pro so why wait? I'd have done the same thing.

No, my bad for missing the sarcasm in your comment.
LoveItHateIt, you shouldn't have any problem with that pick.
HC, let's put a midnight EDT Wednesday deadline on this, shall we? The Open will start less than two hours after that.

While 9 of the last 15 stories revolved around Eldrick, only one of the 15 prior one that did. We also had stories more often back then too, which probably compounds the perception today.
