08:06 AM ET 07.18 | For his part, Suns first-round pick Kendall Marshall allowed after his Las Vegas summer league game that he was nervous. [Marshall] had an inauspicious debut, looking unsure of himself and showing first-game jitters. He turned over the ball five times and dished out four assists with two steals in the Suns' 89-74 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday. "Definitely have to cut down on the turnovers," Marshall said. "I think if we gain more shots instead of those turnovers, it's going to make us a better team." ... Marshall picked up the ball several times after passing half-court instead of driving and dishing, an ability he was known for at North Carolina. He took one shot in 20 minutes of play, an air ball from beyond the 3-point line.

Share the ball with who?? As much as I love DUKE, the team was not well constructed last year and Austin was forced to do too much as a result. Dawkins was inconsistent most of the year and Curry was gun shy. Dont know WHY Thornton was out there at all and Kelly would rather shoot 3s than bang down low.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I think a slice of humble pie is a good thing for Rivers to taste at this stage. If I've learned nothing else about sports, it's this... When you're young and talented, you can get by on *balls* and natural ability, but as you get older and the talent disparity decreases, the game becomes more mental. All the bad habits you developed in the early stages of your development get exposed under a harsher light and there are far fewer excuses made or accepted for what you do. If you can't do it, there are 20 others who can and will make it abundantly clear to you by taking your spot. That is the real obstacle these guys face. In Austin Rivers' case, it's about living up to his own hype.

I think the Suns overextended with this kid. He may have been the best passer in draft, but there was far better overall talent to be had at the time this pick was made. Time will tell how well he pans out (or not), but the Suns need contributors NOW.

Clearly there was no way of knowing that we'd get Dragic back and that Nash was going to be gone either way, so I can see the point in drafting a PG; that said, I was fine with Telfair as the backup and us looking for a suitable starter instead of making a head scratching pick such as this one.
