08:09 AM ET 07.18 | After 16 years in the NBA and a disappointing end to his tenure in Boston, Jermaine O'Neal is a man looking for a new start. The Los Angeles Lakers had enough interest in O'Neal's progress to send general manager Mitch Kupchak and head coach Mike Brown to watch him work out at Impact Basketball in Las Vegas, Nevada. During that workout, O'Neal ran full court without laboring, dunked repeatedly and showed that he can still move pretty well for a 33-year-old with his level of mileage. ... [Said O'Neal:] "I had a fantastic time in Boston, an unbelievable sports town, fans and organization. But it wasn't necessarily the best fit basketball wise. ... I don't think I can go for 20 every night anymore, but I do believe I can go for 20 on any given night."

Time to hang it up ??????

when the best ya got is a possible 20 minute appearance once in a while, yes.

Sounds like the "bad fit" was the Celts expecting him to play and him not being able to.

Sounds like he wanted to be Greg Kite without the ability to play.

"he can still move pretty well for a 33-year-old with his level of mileage" translation: "He can still provide you 7 or so solid minutes, 2 Rebounds a game and perhaps 4 points - if you're lucky"

I don???t think I can go for 20 every night anymoreBro, if you can't play 20 minutes a night- get the f out

when he said 20, i think he was referring to 20 points a night, not 20 mins a night

He's right, he don't belong in Boston, did he happen to look up at the Rafters?

I think he meant 20 ppg - not 20 mins per game. Also there's nothing in the article from O'Neal that suggested O'Neal felt he was out of place in Boston. He was never healthy enough to contribute at the level of expectation... there's nothing wrong with that. All's well that ends well.

Neither was ever possible, not the points nor the minutes.

Except for Russell and all the good players that the Celtics hoarded in the 60's...Does anyone really feel that they "belong" in Boston ??

Early leader for dumbest post of the day.

The day is young, but the bar is set.

nah, lol, 20 minutes.......makes the hate sound more plausible:)

I thought he was talking about eating 20 hot dogs every night!

Even if it was 20 points he was talking about, he scored a grand total of 254 points in 2 seasons in Boston. Not sure how he'd ever assume he could score 20 in a game on an irregular basis.

The vendors at the garden cut him off at 10 per game. Can't overwork the injuries.
