08:22 AM ET 07.18 | Always on the lookout for making a splash, Brian Burke may just have something working. [The] Leafs are reportedly going after young Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier, not the veteran netminder Burke told a Toronto radio station he was interested in acquiring. According to Hockey Night in Canada's Andi Petrillo, the Leafs have made an offer to the Kings for Bernier, who was the backup to Jonathan Quick last season. Quick signed a 10-year, $58 million contract extension last month, leading Bernier to ask for a trade. Earlier this month, Burke told Sportsnet 590 The Fan the Leafs wanted a proven puck-stopper as an upgrade in net. Now it looks like he's focused on 23-year-old Bernier, who fits more into the might-be-great category.

Is it me or is this article laced with shots at Loulou...not that he would stop them but they are still there

Acquiring a veteran goalie doesn't mean getting a superstar one who makes a killing. If he's going this route, he's better off bringing in a role model with experience to show Scrivens the ropes.

Scrivens? Bailed on Optimus Reim already?

To me, Bernier is a big a crapshoot as either one of them.

leave it to Lord Irk to "make a splash" by acquiring a back up goalie

Haven't bailed on anything. But Reimer, Bernier and Scrivens are all raw and need the refinement either a vet or a GOOD goaltending coach would bring.

Tellqvist and Aubin? You coulda done better there.

And we STILL didn't trade Patrick Roy for a guy named Jocelyn.

Unless Bernier wants to commit professional suicide, he'll stay the hell out of Toronto and Philadelphia. That's where goalies go to die.

I think Burkie's taking this "You Can Play" program a bit too far.

I hear Tim Thomas isn't doing anything next year. Perhaps Burke can offer the B's 2 firsts and a second for his services.

Toronto was good to goalies until the lockout. Not sure what the hell has gone on since then...

Said the media. Burke will not trade for Roberto Luongo, I 100% guarantee that.

That 'nutjob' won a cup and is still better than any TO goalie since Johnny Bower, sour Lime.

You have to think Bernier would be better then Reimer was for most of last year

Would I be wrong in saying Curtis Joseph may have been your last good goalie? I can't think of anybody after him that distinguished himself.
