Why Columbus won't deal Nash to Detroit

08:24 AM ET 07.18 | Rick Nash remains on the Blue Jackets payroll despite, some say, legitimate offers. The Red Wings made "a [heck] of an offer" to Columbus for Nash, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. But the offer generated no conversation. No counteroffer, no back and forth negotiation, nothing. It is clear Columbus has no intention of trading the face of its franchise to the team it considers to be its top rival, a Detroit club that has dominated the Blue Jackets since they entered the NHL in 2000-01. The last thing Columbus general manager Scott Howson wants to see is Nash being paired with Pavel Datsyuk and his Blue Jackets having to deal with that scenario six times a season.

"the team it considers to be its top rival".
Talk about irrelevant.

Doesn't there have to be a rivalry before you can be rivals? I'm not sure one team being consistently stomped by the other constitutes a rivalry.

Interesting since a rivalry is generally competative.

Why Columbus won't deal Nash to Detroit?
Because Ken Holland is not stupid enough to cave in and give them what they want.

Consider the source. An Oilers fan. Do they even remember what winning a hockey game is like in Edmonton?

the fact is the Wings don't have enough quality young players to trade for Nash. Filppula? UFA in a year. Franzen? decent player but always injured. Helm? 3rd line center? Gustav Nyquist? maybe but what else?
you don't trade a star player within the division unless you get equal value back.

2 games a year against the Pens makes them a rival? LOL.

Why don't you pass your bit of advise on to Kevin Lowe. A player by the name of Chris Pronger seems to come to mind?

Lets just suppose they do not trade him..........does Howson think having his trade bait Captain is gonna be a positive dressing room influence??? How can you effectively lead while skating on a trap door ?

You're the one saying there's a "supposed" rivalry there, no Wings fans on here are saying that.
