Recent Cup champs getting worse?

08:27 AM ET 07.18 | From the Stanley Cup to disappointing follow-up in the playoffs, to ... what? The biggest story to come out of Boston this offseason has been the future of goaltender Tim Thomas and whether he's going to play this upcoming season (it appears he's not). The Bruins already have his replacement in house with Tuukka Rask, and he has already been their 1B goalie for the past few seasons. ... It's hard to say at this point that they're not at least a little bit worse. Even though they still have Rask to occupy the crease, if they really go into the season without Thomas that's a big loss because he is a great goalie. While none of the other free-agent losses are crushing, or even all that significant, they haven't added anybody to the lineup either.

I like the CBC commentary following the headline! Truly a masterpiece!
"How long will Doan wait? How long will Doan wait? How long will Doan wait? How long will Doan wait?How......."

If they get really bad they can just give Burke a call for replacements, real cheap ones too.

The Ninja Turtle will do just fine in net. Extracting a distraction is positive subtraction.

The core of the Cup winning team is intact with the exception of Tim Thomas. Losing TT is a big deal for sure and anyone who watched a lot of Bruins games over the past 4 years knows he was the best player on that team. His playoff performance two years ago was phenomenal and it remains to be seen if Tuukka can replicate that. They also have a new back-up netminder who has shown flashes of brilliance in his few appearances in Boston.

We Bruins fans are going to have to hope you're right Harry. Three years ago we saw that Rask was not ready for the prime time playoff atmosphere. I hope he does better next time around.

Tenders are the latest developing (usually) position in the nhl. I think Rask is ready. If he is , the Bruins got him for good money.

That's why we got Jonas Disgustavsson! He's still developing. I believe he got his last diaper change in Toronto with Burke's help. :-)

I agree. Of all the firstime regulars this upcoming (we hope) season, he seems the most ready

Oh, and the Bruins will be fine. They will be in the thick of the playoff hunt when the trade deadline comes, so they will be able to tweak the roster as needed then.

And if Horton comes back, they will be even more fine
