Darko in, Asik out for Bulls?

08:07 AM ET 07.19 | Whether this all pans out for the Rockets remains to be seen, but they may be on the verge of adding another player, Omer Asik, via offer sheet. Though Asik won't sign his three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet until likely Friday, more signs developed that his uniform will have "Rockets" on the front. Marc Cornstein, the agent for Darko Milicic, confirmed the Bulls have expressed interest in his client, who was a recent amnesty cut by the Timberwolves. League sources also indicated the Bulls are casting a wide net for other lower-salaried big men in free agency. Though management isn't commenting publicly, these moves would suggest the Bulls won't match Asik's offer, which contains a so-called "poison pill" third-year salary.

either Darko or Asik, it will make no difference. Finals will be Lakers vs Heat

Darko definitely the less expensive option. I've not seen Asik play, but obviously Rockets are high on him. And another "poison pill" contract, similar to Lin's, that is being offered by Houston. Have to wonder what their payroll will look like in that 3rd year.

By this move Bulls throw in the towel for next season and I think it's a very smart move. Sacrificing short term glory for long term gains like the Mavs did. I love smart management...

Not really that bad of a move, virtually the same player. Had Darko been a second round pick and not the #2 pick then this would be seen as an even trade off

Darko ain't going to the Bulls.
Apparently, Vlad Radmanovic (played with Atlanta last season) has agreed to terms with the Bulls......one year contract.
Sad as it sounds......Darko might have been the better choice considering that Radmanovic is a PF and the Bulls need a center.

Unless Radmanovic is filling Scalabrine's roster spot. Then......they might still be pursueing Darko.

The Bulls are regressing. They have Pistons rejects (RIP and Darko maybe). The Lakers will need D-12 and Jamison to get pass the Thunder. King James and the Heat are poised to repeat after it's all say and done.

The regression began as soon as Rose blew out his knee.
They need to do all of this, though. They are looking towards two years from now. Not this upcoming season. At that point, Rose will be fully back, Boozer will be amnestied, Deng will be fully healthy (from the wrist injury) and they will have had cap space to pick up some good, quality free agents. They will be back in the picture in the near future.

I don't think this is a throw in the towel move Asik for Darko, it is like a lateral move short term. Neither one brings anything offensively. Asik is a slightly better rim protector but not a 3 year 25 mill for a backup center with that same "cap block" move Houston did with Lin. It is called get a capable backup that 15~minues or for dirt cheap doesn't break the bank.

Exactly once you guys amnesty Boozer next year, which I think will happen then you can perhaps throw max type or close to max money money at valuable free agents to surround Rose with.

Thus the need for a REAL SG, not broken down Rip or defensive minded Brewer but an actual NBA SG that can...u know...score the ball

$25 M with $ 15 M in the final year, for a guy who isn't going to play more than 15-20 mins a game and will never be a scoring threat is just silly. Bulls are just be realistic, they have little to no chance of winning a championship next season; let Asik walk. Prepare for 2 years down the road when Boozer will be gone, Deng will either be gone or healthy enough to be worth something and they'll have the cap space to bring in Mirotic from Europe. Add a quality free agent to the mix and the team is right back in the championship picture.
