Rangers focused on acquiring high-end starters

08:14 AM ET 07.19 | Texas may be looking to significantly bolster its starting lineup. The Rangers, in search of a high-end pitcher to top their rotation, have focused their attention almost entirely on Cole Hamels and Zack Greinke. What if they don't get either one? One long-shot option the Rangers would consider, according to sources: A reunion with Cliff Lee. There are significant obstacles to a trade with the Phillies for Lee, including a contract that guarantees him $25 million each of the next three seasons and also includes a $12.5 million buyout for 2016. But the Rangers have always liked Lee, and they did have a scout watch him Wednesday in Los Angeles, as reported by CSNPhilly.com.

I cannot understand why Texas doesn't have confidence in their minor league system or pitchers they have on the roster now to get them over the top.

But, if the Rangers are to pick up a Hamels, wouldn't they have to trade some guys such as Neftali Feliz, Alexi Ogando, or their young SS, Profar?

I suspect one of the obstacles for a trade for Cliff Lee is that he didn't want to sign with them last year, and likely hasn't changed his mind. But maybe he didn't get a no-trade clause in his contract.
