Red Sox flipping Crawford for Ramirez return?

08:18 AM ET 07.19 | Well, this would certainly qualify as a blockbuster. Left fielder Carl Crawford to the Miami Marlins for either shortstop Jose Reyes or third baseman Hanley Ramirez, with other pieces and significant cash involved. The Boston Red Sox are contacting teams to gauge their trade interest in Crawford, according to major-league sources. No trade appears close. Such a deal would be difficult to accomplish, given the size of Crawford's contract and his lingering elbow problems. But the first lesson of the July 31 non-waiver deadline is that nothing is impossible. The Red Sox, sources said, reached out to both the Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers, though another source said that no discussions took place with the Dodgers.

My understanding is the Marlins contacted the Red Sox.

Yes, and the Phillies are trying to flip Ryan Howard for Matt Kemp - good luck with that BoSox.

Wouldn't be a bad Idea!!! Bobby can Handle Ramerez!

The Red Sox have denied this though take it for what it's worth. First I can't believe the Marlin's will want a guy who everyone is saying will need surgery and will miss a season. Plus Hanely coming to the Red Sox is not a good idea since he's had his issues in Florida and i can't imagine the Boston media or fans being too kind if he brought his same act up here.

That would be the heist of the century if the Sox pull this off.

Hanley would certainly live up to all aspects of the Ramirez tradition in Boston.

In their (my) dreams, though Crawford is batting .500 since he's been back. :D

Even if Crawford needs Tommy John, it's only a 6-7 month recovery period for a position player. He has the procedure in September, he should be ready to go by April.

Myself, I would rather keep Crawford than aquire Hanley.

Ha!

Nice signing. Miami would be stupid to make that deal

Well, it IS Miami after all.

The Fish have made one dumb move already by getting Carlos Lee. I do think the Fish would like to move Hanley, but not for overpaid, injured pronged Carl Crawford.

I'm not so sure about that. Ramirez is a head case and his production hasn't been the same as it was for a couple of years now. I think a lot of Marlins fans (maybe even both of them) would be happy to see him go.

I haven't been paying that close attention to the standings lately, so I was shocked to see the Yankees out to a 10 game lead in the East.

Would it though? Hanley Ramirez isn't exactly trailblazing.

Jayson Nix and Dewayne Wise are the keys to their success.
