The best month one manager has ever seen

08:15 AM ET 07.19 | Andrew McCutchen's consecutive player-of-the-week awards barely cover it for Clint Hurdle. It has been 35 years since [Hurdle] made his major league debut, and in that time, he has seen some incredible months of offense. Andrew McCutchen's most recent work might top that list, Hurdle said. Better than when he watched George Brett terrorize the AL, Larry Walker in 1997 or Josh Hamilton in June 2010. "I'm looking at Andrew, this might be the best I've ever seen," Hurdle said. "It very well could be." ... From June 17 to July 17, McCutchen hit .485 with 50 hits, 30 runs, 11 home runs, 28 RBIs, 7 doubles and 2 triples. He had a .527 on-base percentage and a 1.439 OPS. In that span, he had 15 strikeouts and drew nine walks.

This Guy is Something Else, Go Andrew!!!!!!!

July 19, 2012  09:13 AM ET

That's a pretty ridiculous stat line.

July 19, 2012  09:34 AM ET

And remember this is a guy who just signed a long term contract, not someone who is looking to sign one. I think that speaks volumes about this guy's character.

July 19, 2012  09:35 AM ET

The Bucs have finally got their act together by locking this guy up and keeping key players instead of trading them away.

It'd be nice to see the Pirates make a move before the trade deadline.....maybe another big bat. They are definitely in the mix and should take advantage

July 19, 2012  09:52 AM ET

That is one amazing hot streak.

I would LOVE for the team to pick up a legitimate power threat for the lineup. Not Carlos Quentin...a legit hitter.

Perhaps Justin Upton, who would fit in well with McCutcheon in the OF. If not, maybe Logan Morrison from Miami, who would be cheaper.

Yes, that would help
Upton is slightly above average in RF (UZR/150 of 3.2 or something) while Morrison rates -15 in LF in about 2000 innings. -15 is really bad, not sure he will be an OF much longer. But in a few games at 1b Morrison has looked pretty good, and it looks like Pittsburgh could use help there, too.

now that's like returning the favor to the pirates,,

One AMAZING month there! Hope he keeps it going through the end of the season just to see how high he can go.

July 19, 2012  12:11 PM ET

congrats to him...plays the game right.....although my favorite player of the month award was when randy johnson was i think 0-4 with a 1.41 era and 67 strike outs in 4 starts....it was in an article when shot back at someone complaining about run support..

Yeah. More home runs than walks? what's up with that? Don't the Pirates have a batting instructor? :)

Yeah, LoMo at first was my thought. I think the guy will continue to improve and be a quality MLB player.

As for Upton, the D Backs act like they don't want him. Pitt has some young talent to send to Ariz for him.

July 19, 2012  05:37 PM ET

If talking about it doesn't jinx him, huh.

July 20, 2012  04:15 AM ET

Amazing!

GO BUCS!!!

July 20, 2012  07:58 AM ET

Nobody's Perfect, but that month was pretty close!!!

Time to start pitching around him.
