08:03 AM ET 07.20 | With a few notable franchise-tagged players signed at the deadline, there remains the matter of Mike Wallace, who sets up as a potential camp holdout. CBSSports.com's NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports Thursday that the parties are in "close contact" and that the two sides continue to make progress on a new deal. "The sides have remained in close contact and continued their dialogue and are expected to maintain a steady pace with the start of training camp looming," La Canfora reports. "There has been some movement and though no deal is imminent and work remains to be done, the situation has certainly improved since early this offseason. Both sides are motivated to complete a long-term contract."

So does this mean Wallace finally came to his senses and realized he's not getting Fitz money, at least not on this contract?
If he continues to improve, MAYBE the next one will be in that league.

With or without Wallace, Steelers is still a very dangerous team. Still a Superbowl contender every year as long as they have Big Ben in offense and Polamalu in defense.

The thing with guys like Wallace is that their impact is not just shown in the numbers...they stretch the field and allow guys like Brown & Sanders to get single coverage against a safety perhaps and get open. Without that deep threat (and he can actually play too) those other cats wont shine as much.
With that said- hes NOT a top tier guy but 2nd tier for sure. They shouldnt go overboard with this deal

When's the last time that the Steelers went overboard on a WR?

Santonio Holmes? Plaxico Burress?
Oh, you said went overboard. I thought you were asking about the ones they threw overboard.

I am to the point where I could care less if Wallace remains a Steeler. Brown, Saunders, and Crochery are better all around receivers.Tomlin said it a while back about Wallace...one trick pony...he has gotten a few more tricks, but is hardly the elite WR he thinks he is. He sounds like a future Jet.

Wallace makes Brown a better receiver. The opposite isn't true.
Without the constant deep threat that Wallace provides, Browns numbers drop dramatically.

You forgot Nate Washington, Antawan Randal El, and a host of others. Just the way the Steelers do business, WRs who demand too much or make too much trouble, hey the door is over there

What has he said this off season to make him a Big Mouth? Is this your first off season as an NFL fan? If I can remember correctly this has happened once or twice before, you know, players trying to get a big money contract.
